Ephesians 2
Made Alive in Christ
BEFORE YOU BELIEVED IN JESUS you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

BELIEVERS Live no longer as the unsaved do, for they are blinded and confused. Their closed hearts are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds against him, and they cannot understand his ways. 19 They don’t care anymore about right and wrong and have given themselves over to impure ways. They stop at nothing, being driven by their evil minds and reckless lusts.

20 But that isn’t the way Christ taught you! 21 If you have really heard his voice and learned from him the truths concerning himself, 22 then throw off your old evil nature—the old you that was a partner in your evil ways—rotten through and through, full of lust and sham.

23 Now your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better. 24 Yes, you must be a new and different person, holy and good. Clothe yourself with this new nature.
Ephesians 4:17-24

And you were dead in your trespasses and sin. – Ephesians 2:1 (NASB)

When man fell into sin, he became totally dead spiritually. Ephesians 4:18 teaches us that sin in it’s totality alienated man from the life God. And without the life of God we died. This truth applies to us all. If you”re a Christian, this is your past. However, if you’re not this is your present condition. You are dead to the life of God.
Spiritually, sinful man is dead. Walking around in physical bodies functioning in a world of sin and trespasses. Interacting with that physical world but void of God’s life. It’s as if we are walking dead. Instead of living our lives in and through God we exist in direct opposition to it. Like zombies functioning physically but dead apart from God.

Jesus (who said He was God) said:

“…I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10

◄ Romans 6:23 ►
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
