Zone1 Banning books is wrong

A craze that seems to have run its course.
It seems to be less popular than it was lasst year. Maybe everything has been banned.
Im going to put forward an unpopular viewpoint.
I agree with the first amendment.
Thats one of the more unpopular parts of the US constitution.
I dont believe in banning books. I dont believe in banning ideas that I dont like.
Thats a bit unfashionable these days.
Nobody ever told me what I could or couldnt read.
I think reading stuff makes you a more balanced adult. Better educated.
Many of the book bans centred on Gay topics.
I think they should be available to youngsters.
Firstly they would help teens growing up and struggling with it.
Secondly it would combat the hate that we see on these boards which is a stain on america.
Much of that uses a faux religous cober for outright prejudice.
I think better educated kids will be happier kids less likely to kill each other.
Of course there needs to be some streaming of titles. Some books would be wasted on kids if they are too young to appreciate them. But not banned by zealots.
A b etter informed world is a better world.

No, you don't have the right to provide your neighbors CHILD with pornography

What are you protecting them from ? Books that explain the world ? Your homophobia is off the scale.
How would you help kids with homosexual feeliings ? Beat it out of them
We are protecting the children from pedophiles. There is no homophobia. Though I must say your seeming declaration that all homosexuals are pedophiles to be particularly disgusting.

There are more "Gays Against Groomers" than there are you perverts.

Removing certain books from grammar schools does not equate to banning them... so you can still get your porn elsewhere...

You don't give 5 year olds books talking about sex -- queen or straight. WTF is wrong with you

And Brits have NOTHING to lecture the USA about.

I made that same point earlier in this thread that you havent read.
But you could give a 15 year olf a book. They might grow up more educated and better able to cope in the modern world.
Maybe if you were better educated you could read the thread and then contrivute to the debate.

No, you said 13 year old. Stop being a perv.

It is a ban. You are being semantic.
Well that makes two of you. You're doing the same goddamn thing.

A ban would be across the board and made unavailable to everyone.

Children learning about homosexuality or sexuality in general on a theoretical level is fine. But giving them access to books that depict graphic sex acts is not. That's what we're talking about here.

Both are bans. A 5 year old doesnt need a book about falling in love. Maybe a 13 year old does.
If the thirteen year old needs such a resource, there are usually YA sections in every public library. I know there is one in my town, my kid had used it quite a bit.

The only thing we will agree on, is that certain books are banned from school libraries only. And yes, that is the way it should be in America.

Books and knowledge frighten people, especially so called conservatives and religious. That apple myth still holds. That darn Eve, they always blame the women.

Bullshit.

Unlimited knowledge is fine for adults. Children are NOT, however, adults, and should no more be able to watch X-rated movies than they should have access to all knowledge that is out there.

I was very well read, and very intelligent in Junior High and High School. There are many books I wanted to look at, mostly out of curiosity of things I did not know, but they are not in school libraries. It had nothing to do with left/right politics or religious folks, it had to do with what is appropriate for school libraries.

These are some of the books I wanted to look at when I found out about them, but were never available in a public school setting.

Are you telling me young teens should have access to books that tell them how to make bombs and traps out of everyday products?

None of these are appropriate for school libraries, but just about every inquisitive teen would love to see why they are forbidden.

It has not a damn thing to do with LGBTQ+ folks, it has to do with banning explicit material from kids. They do that with explicit hetereosexual material as well.

Now, if you want to argue that the US has a problem with not treating children the same as adults? Sure, fine, we'll agree. Most folks in the U.S. don't see it as a "problem," by letting parents decide when certain purient material is avaialble to their own children.

I know that since everyone is a subject of the crown where you are, this is an entirely foreign concept for you. In this nation, we are citizens, not subjects.

Citizens raise their own children, the state has not a shadow of a right to decide how to raise the children of the citizens, other than to keep them safe and well fed.

Parents dont care. Bogus groups funded by religous nuts do. Their aim is to eliminate gay folk.
They use fake religion as a cover.

Maybe these characters start with good intentions. I doubt that but still they end up banning books about gay penquins. Its madness.
