In a Republic, actually
‘“Stars and Stripes was not approved by the Pentagon to attend this press conference. I will be watching it on a screen instead,” Matthew Adams, a reporter at the outlet, said in a post on social media. “Seems a bit odd since the Pentagon published a memo with changes to the newspaper, including content overhaul.”

The memo referenced by Adams was a Pentagon missive detailing "new restrictions on content" in the publication that includes a requirement that the outlet abide by "good order and discipline," which is presumably defined by the Department of Defense.

Kevin Baron, another Stars and Stripes reporter, was similarly shocked by the development and noted that the publication was set up to have editorial independence, not to be a mouthpiece for the Pentagon.

"The Pentagon blackballed its own newspaper from covering its own press conference? Reminder, Stars & Stripes employees are US Army civilians," he wrote. "Their editorial independence is protected by Congress specifically to prevent political leaders from feeding troops propaganda.”’

Reporting facts and the truth the Trump regime doesn’t like will get you banned.

This un-Constitutional violation of freedom of the press is typical of the authoritarian right, of course.

And this is clearly a pathetic attempt by Trump to conceal the truth about his failed, illegal war.

Have you ever heard of a publication that was not subject to whims of its owner/publisher? If you answered no, then you should educate yourself. Fox doesn't print anything that doesn't pass muster with Rupert Murdoch and the msm has shown clearly that they print anything their publishers deem factual--even when proven to be false. Press corps participation has ALWAYS been restricted by the people who are holding the presser--for any number of reasons--room capacity being one and politics being another. Every potus has done it and the only reason you're crowing about it is your own TDS. Nothing burger.

The Pentagon understands that limiting access to Hegseth's drunken rantings helps their image

More ignorance. When was the last time you read a copy of Stars and Stripes? Or even saw a copy for that matter? Stars and Stripes also prints offerings by outside contributors--I've had stories printed in that publication. They also print stories from the wire services. Find something pertinent to whine about.

I was simply complimenting the Pentagon on their good sense

Kegseth wants $200BN for the war. At less than a $1bn a day thats more than a seven month war. What the hell?

How many multiples is that of DOGE?

Somebody has misled you but not me. I went to Stars and Stripes to get the truth.

They are totally independent as always.

I'd be just fine not knowing what the Dept. of War was up to during a war.
They were barred from covering an open press conference, bozo. You Trumpist really do want to be led by the collar. Fetch, boy!

I just keep remembering the uncounted times where Obama and Biden put pressure on the media to censor the news.

Stars and Stripes was our newspaper when I was in Germany.

I looked at a copy awhile back and I was wondering if CNN was writing their stories.

They're owned by the same company as The Army Times and the USA Today.

YES, and I also read it when I was in the Army in Germany.

I looked at today's copy, and they want a person to subscribe yet they still let me read today's edition.
