"Hail Mary" getting great reviews and pulling a really good box office

I went and saw it Saturday. The movie did what it's supposed to do: entertain the movie viewer. I didn't read the book before seeing the movie. I don't think that there was any political posturing either way. Good storyline, Ryan Gosling carries the film, the flashback sequences between Ryan's character on the ship and him on Earth leading to him being on the ship, were well done. If you're not going to listen to Citygator, I'm just another poster with an opinion. This is a movie that's actually worth going to a theater and watching. You don't hear of too many movies made lately that's worth the price of admission.

I dont get that comparison. Not similar in themes or genres. Castaway was a solid movie though in my opinion but I can see how an action addict would find it slow.

Okay, I just saw the movie in the theater. You definitely want to see this movie in a theater.

All I can say is that it is fantastic and does a great job of staying true to the book, which I read last year, with just a few exceptions.

The book is very math and science heavy, as I mentioned earlier. The movie would have to be twice as long to go that deep.

Very, very well done. Don't miss it.

Yep -- everything has to be culture war with these hyper-partisans.

I love good science fiction and I love movies, but don't want to see a movie where it is obvious that I am being manipulated towards a certain political view. The most recent Oscar winner was ALL about promoting a radical political agenda, so I am cautious, too.
There is absolutely nothing political in Project Hail Mary.

It's just a great fun popcorn movie, with a lot of visually stunning moments, and just the right amount of drama.

I read the book a while ago, and am planning on seeing the movie on Tuesday with my wife and some friends. I saw the article below and have avoided reading it until I see the movie.

Movie versions almost always ruin a good book. We'll see.

The book was very heavy on the science. A little too much, in my opinion. Some parts really dragged.

5 Biggest Changes The Project Hail Mary Movie Makes From The Original Book

.
I haven’t read the book, but the movie is not overly heavy on the science. Actually, I would say the biggest flaws in the movie are when the writers were too loose with the science.
It was an enjoyable movie.

So the author and screenwriter that wrote "The Martian" starring Matt Damon that nearly everyone likes teamed up together to give us "Hail Mary".

Hail Mary is getting great reviews and doing well at the box office.

I saw it last night with my wife and we both loved it. We also both read the book. Wife liked the movie better. It's one of my favorite recent books so I dont know that I can say "better" than the book but I did love the movie as much.

One of the things the old folks on this board will like is the minimal use of CGI and the reliance on physical set pieces.
  • $200M was spent making the movie
  • They built a life size spaceship to shoot the scenes in and CGI'd in some details.
  • Their is an alien life that is puppet and animatronics not CGI and it adds to the immersion

The sound and visuals were stunning. If you can see and hear it on IMAX go see it - I'll lend you money if that's an issue LOL.

Even you right wing nuts can be ok without worrying about losing your anti-woke card. Sure its an international event but the white guy American gets the billing, played by a Canadian of course. So maybe you will have complaints.

Matt Damon is a white male

So he is more likely to be attacked by ugly and childless Karens on the left

Or dickless pandering lib males

But it doesent matter

I only watch old movies so I’ll probably never see this film

Read the book but have not seen the movie. It was a great book. Just wondering, how they pictured the alien in the movie?

I just got the book, along with a load of other books. I might read it next. The Martian was a great read.

Kind of a cute 5 legged clay colored rocklike creature.

Highest second weekend since the original AVATAR for an original (non-franchise) opening. Avatar wasnt a franchise back then.

This type of rigid thinking is why so many conservatives remain ignorant throughout their lives.

It's sad, you're missing out on so many things because Rush Limbaugh said it was left-wing or progressive or some other stupid shit, and now you're old and don't know anything because you listened to Limbaugh during your formative years and missed out.
Not to mention so many "Liberals" also have rigid thinking and closed minds.
Try suggesting the read Ayn Rand or watch the movies, as one example.

Another thread on this movie;

I thought it was boring. The alien “Rocky” looked a cardboard tarantula. Besides the alien the special effects were cool, but the movie just dragged. There was some funny scenes, but overall fell flat. The Martian was much better.

I saw it and couldn’t get enough. The science that was researched for this movie went above and beyond. Even nonconventional theories were alluded too, like organisms living without water. Then you have beings consisting of minerals. Moreover the topic of astrophage (like algae) was just fascinating and with it, its potential, like powering space ships as it gravitates towards CO2.

If anyone wants to see it, you should watch this first.
