Back surgery

Has anyone experienced it?
Getting two and three vertebrae fused on Friday.
good luck

and wish you a speedy recovery

So far so good.

good

how long the doc say you will be laid up

He said it would take a week for most of the post op surgery pain to go away, and another month and a half to two months for the bones to fuse completely.

that sounds about right from people i know that have had similar done

His prediction has been on the mark so far.
This is day three and it's much improved.

Yeah the pain does make you a little pissy at times.
As far as the hospital bed goes I dont need one.
I'm up and walking without a walker already.
The worst part at this point is going from lying/sitting to standing.

Seems like you are doing really well! Good news but be careful that you don't overdo it. :)

The wife is treating me right.
The only reason I get pissy is because I hate to keep bugging her for help.

Well, I'm sure she WANTS to help as much as she can, just as you would want to help her if she was in the same situation.

Look at us nagging on him! Eat well, get rest, don't overdo it, don't forget to wipe your bum after you poop!

Sorry, we don't mean to be naggy. We just want to help. :D

The Doc said listen to your body.
If it starts hurting take a break.
The one thing that has me concerned is the point of no pain and the total fusion of the vertebra.
It'd be just like me to screw it up at that point.

do step up the diet and eat well....they really talked about high protein diet for a while

My bones have always knitted very fast.
The surgeon who did my hip replacement said I had the hardest femur he'd ever encountered.
Same with the dental implants. The bone had grown all the way over the implant during the healing process and they had to do a lot of grinding.

Glad to see you are doing so well! Just don’t push it too much. Take care.

15th post
Glad to see you are doing so well! Just don’t push it too much. Take care.

I did that today and now I'm regretting it.
They brought over a bone stimulator today that is supposed to enhance the fusion rate to almost double.
The weird part? They just want me to toss it in the trash when I'm done with it and Blue Cross is paying for it.
This thing is no slouch when it comes to construction either and I cant see why it wouldnt last through many more uses.

Probably so they can charge the next person top dollar! They don't want people getting this equipment used at a discounted price, god forbid!

They do the same with the ice machines used to ice down the shoulder after surgery. I had wondered why, too. Maybe the labor to pick it up, sanitize, etc. becomes more than it is worth.
