The thing about teachers being underpaid is the same as the cries of federal government workers being underpaid - a myth. Their benefits and pensions alone add a great value.
Link?On a national average college grads make about the same as average teachers do. So, claiming to earn less than similar degreed people is a false claim.
There’s something I’ve been avoiding saying, but m going to go ahead: Education majors are just about lowest IQ average of all the majors, with sociology the one lower.
I said that earlier. The problem isn’t the pay. The problem is the leftists have made a disaster of the education system.
First thing they should do is require kids to take off their pajamas and put on a decent pair of pants to attend school.
Education is invested with the same mentalities as everything else that is wrong in government in America. The USA is always in the top five countries that are reported to spend the most per student on education. But the other top four are all at or near the top of the list in education excellence. The USA is I think #31 or in that area.
So all that money is apparently not being used to educate children. Follow the money and I'm pretty sure it will be found to be mostly feeding a massive bureaucracy. Leave most money with the local communities to run their own schools, get the NEA out of it entirely and stop all this 'woke' crap, and I am pretty sure American education will be back up in the top five within a generation.
Ya know, for a school teacher--you sure do spend a lot of time on here. Isn't this a school day? That's surprising. In my state it's about 65%, and higher than that in my district. Almost everyone I know has a Master's in my district.
I got paid for 192 days but I worked about 260 by hours I put in. When I was an AP, it was 12-16 hours each day and sometimes on weekends.Showing pay is not the issue
Teachers do not work a full year and do not deserve the same pay as those who do
No one works 16 hours each day.I got paid for 192 days but I worked about 260 by hours I put in. When I was an AP, it was 12-16 hours each day and sometimes on weekends.
You love the DOE?!Hear, hear.
This is why I don't get teachers being mad about the DOE. I personally love it.
Those are tours and teacher act as teachers for the students who sign up for them. I had a colleague that did that, and she was paid.Whatever. The numbers are still an annual salary.
On of my childhood friends earned more than $100,000 as a 10th grade teacher, and traveled to Europe for a month every summer.
Alabama is one of the worst states for pay. I considered moving there, but they didn't pay enough.Alabama is low ball teachers pay but in mid 40s to start. With benifits medical better than 50s.
Low for college degree but has lastingbgood benifits. Very good benifits.
Much better than many of us.
I wish I could get you to stop believing in the myth that teachers get the summers off. The old "teachers work a summer job" is also antiquated bullshit. Teachers have to maintain their CE units to keep their certifications. That means workshops and training sessions all summer long. I was lucky to get two weeks off in a row so my family could travel.Starting in the low 50s is good - especially with most of the summer off.
My daughter was a college grad, and her first job was $80K. She now makes over 6 figures only 2 years later.Plenty of college grads start in the low 50s.
Can't read it with subscribing to the ChiTrib. Just copy and paste the whole article. Here's a news story instead. New Trier teachers, school board agree to 5 year contracts with 4.3% base salary raise
Now compare the experience level of those averages. An average teacher has how many years' experience? I never made close to that figure with 21 years' experienceI can post links in a little while.
$69,597 average teacher pay.

I call Bullshitif you want to go with salary, go right ahead, but teachers work a minimum of about 10 hours per day and get paid for 7 1/2.
Many should get the education and experience that it requires, but they don't!Millions would kill for those wages.
