11% of black students in Chicago can read while teachers make $100,000

Because your performance is based solely on what OTHER people do, and in many cases, you have no control over that.

Driver's Ed, for example. Imagine paying DE instructors less money because their former students got in accidents. They have NO control over that, and the very idea is ridiculous. Even to pay based on how many pass a driver's test is questionable. Some people are just bad drivers. Not the teacher's fault.
Team leaders in corporate America are evaluated on how well their team members perform. They have as much control over that as teachers do over their students.

And don’t tell me that corporate employees choose their own team. In most cases, they’re assigned to them.

Dislike the last one. Of course no one wants hateful, pernicious teachers, who shouldn't even be in the profession in the first place. But if a student--especially younger ones--are always "satisfied" with their teachers, are they learning anything? Are they being challenged at all?

Look at it this way: good teachers in this situation are like good parents. The kid who just got grounded is not "satisfied", but in the long run, discipline will help them. Same with teaching.

I suppose, but that is not what I meant.
