Thank you, I have loved teaching. I would never have chosen another career for myself. That said, I would advise younger people to think long and hard before they go into it now.

I think teachers are wonderful. Imagine being the mother to 20 -30 kids. And trying to instruct them about important subjects. I was blessed to marry a woman whose oldest daughter later got a degree to teach. She rapidly rose to being a school principal. She later wanted to return to teaching. Still the school let her teach but made her an assistant principal. We only talk when I come to where she lives.

I'm responsibile for issuing the annual contracts to returning EEs in our division. Now this is Viringia, your mileage may vary, but our contracts do not list "school hours" or "contract hours". They list the total number of days (broken out by Instructional, Professional Development, In-Service, and Discretionary.

But with that said, two things. One, it should be about supporting the kids. Two, I think I would have been happy to have you as one of the teachers teaching my kids.

Trump has nothing to do with this. Long before he took office, our children were failing. They can't read, they can't write, they can't think, and basic math is out of the question.
We need a complete revamping of our education system. One that promotes education above ideology...
