Atheists want to ban the word "heaven"

This is just as silly as Christians wanting to ban an Islamic center in New York.

Which would be fine.... except no one has suggested it be banned.... moved yes, banned, no. You see the difference between those two? This is how bullshit starts. One person bullshits about bullshit and, hey presto, it's 'fact'.

Is this next on their list?

It has been my experience that all atheists have some problems.

It has been my experience that all humans, and most other species, have some problems irregardless of religion.

I find it hilarious that you call other people bigots when you hate everyone who isn't the same religion as you.

As far as the OP goes I agree with the other atheists on this thread, this is dumb, I'm sure there's street signs in america that's names may reference religion in some way.

Unless the the tax funds came from the Fed they probably have no case as to the seperation.

Unless the state Constitution has a specific seperation.

Either way

Even if tax funds came from the fed there is no violation of the establishment clause simply using the word 'heaven'. For heaven's sake there is all kinds of religious imagery and symbolism on federal buildings, all depicting the religious heritage of the country. 'Heaven' has so many definitions that the word could not possibly violate anything to anybody except for angry, hateful, religious nuts who would deny any form of religious speech, expression, symbolism, imagery, or metaphor to anybody. And that's what I think Atheists who want to impose their religion on others are: angry, hateful religious nuts.

This is America they are allowed an opinion even if you dont like it.

I bet you will survive the whole thing

I don't see much truth in your post. Yes, this is America, but the leftists, atheists, socialists, etc. want to have those opinions or beliefs stifled because they don't jive with their own opinions.

You forgot conservatives. Everyone wants their own way.

As an athiest, This is just stupid. You have to realize that regardless of your feelings on religion, this is still a christian nation. Not to mention that the sign is outside of the firehouse where they served. It's point is to honor those 7 who lost their lives to protect ours. This N.Y group should loose this fight and be told to STFU.

now the people who want this done are dumbasses....

Ever heard of equal rights?
I'm Atheist, but I do say. Those people are truly ignorant.

Your kind of Atheism I can respect. You're not a hateful, mean spirited, religious nut demanding that your 'religion' be forced upon everybody. :)

(Edit to add Yoda's post too.)

Atheist are a bunch of punks. If they were truly atheist then anything religious would be a non-issue. Why get upset about shit they don't believe in?

Oh they are Atheist (capital A) because they reject any form of God or Gods, but then so do Buddhists. A true Buddhist following the Buddhist way, however, is not in the least bothered by those who do believe in a god or gods and would not presume to talk somebody out of their beliefs about that. Atheists can be just as fanatically religious as any fundamentalist Christian fanatic in promoting their religion.

The true non religious may call themselves atheist (little a) because they don't believe in a god or gods, but they also are not in the least bothered by those who do. They can enjoy the color and grandeur of a high church mass even if they don't embrace the symbolism of it. They can appreciate the religious music of Handel and Bach and thoroughly enjoy a Christmas concert including many traditional religious hymns even if they don't endorse the message in the lyrics. They aren't bothered by a prayer before an event or a cross depicting the historical religious heritage of a village or a Bible reading at Show & Tell or a creche on the Courthouse lawn at Christmas. They are often tolerant and pleasant people to be around.

Atheists who would object to the word 'heaven' on a street sign are something else quite again.

I'm surprised they aren't trying rename "Hell's Kitchen".

There's a street sign with "Hell's Kitchen" on it in New York?

By the way..it's not really referred to that any longer.

That's some prime real estate now.
I don't know of any street names, but there is a memorial to the firefighters. And yes, it's still referred to as Hell's Kitchen.
Hell's Kitchen has stuck as the name of the neighborhood even though real estate developers have offered alternatives of Clinton and Midtown West or even "the Mid-West".

Memorials dot the station's exterior walls and a granite memorial is in a park to its north.

Also Ladder 21, the "Pride of Hell's Kitchen", located on 38th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues, and stationed with Engine 34, lost 7 firefighters on September 11.

Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hell's Kitchen Park is small .58 acres park in Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, New York City.
