BTW, I had a friendly wager over ten years ago that Nikolai Patrushev would succeed Uncle Pooty at the appropriate time . Any opinion ? Is he now too old ?

Who knows? As little as I do understand situation in the upper echelons of power (and I don't understand it at all), I would say, that FSB is doing their part of work, and doing it good, but not "super-good". Right now "economic tower" of Kremlin is in favor - they are doing miracles. If we are going in the war of atriction, and if Nabiullina is able to keep economy that productive few more years (and continue increasing of industrial production) - she has a good chance to become the next president. But, anyway, it's too early to say before victory.
