When the U.S. invaded and occupied Iraq, the deep U.S. goal there was firm imperialist control of Middle East oil.

While the U.S. support for the Ukrainian nationalists is not without its own problematic history, and errors were certainly made, let us not forget that it is the Russians who are the old fashioned “imperialists” here, invading an independent country.
