You can't only consider states as monolithic entities. I live in one of those states listed and my town is consistently ranked as one of the 'top 10' places to live in the country. Would I rather stay in my town vs move to Starkville, Tulsa, Little Rock, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Austin, New Orleans, or Huntsville? Easily the answer is stay in my current town.
