Another place to cut government compensation cost

Defense contractors are over compensated, they should be in the same bracket salary wise and benefit wise as the private sector. Just the fact that you were able to retire at 55 tells the story.
Yup. He didn’t really retire. He simply declared “retirement,” started collecting 2/3rds of his salary, and then continued in the same job for his full salary.

It also explains why Government employees are Democrats: they not only make more than private industry (except at the very top), they are guaranteed raises tied to inflation, so they have no worries about the consequences of Democrat policies.

Then, to top it off, they know if they stick it out to 55, they get a HUMONGOUS raise by claiming retirement and then continuing to work their jobs.

And then on top of that, they get to put in a few hours a day and then head off to their tennis lessons, the golf course, the movies, the swimming pool, the shopping mall.

Thank Gd the scam is coming to an end.

I paid for half my Civil Service retirement and the Government paid the other half

Really? I paid for 92% of my retirement and my employers kicked in 8%.
Todays Civil Servants no longer get the 2/3 salary I did
For the last 40 years they get around 1/3 salary from FERS, Social Security and a 401k type of plan.
They do if they were smart, and not greedy, and chose to remain on the old system.

Cutting headcount means contracting out more work. Pick a lane.

I worked 40 years for DoD

Me and my fellow worthless Gubmint employees were responsible for writing technical specs on new equipment, writing contracts, reviewing proposals, awarding contracts to the best qualified, resolving technical issues, monitoring compliance, testing performance and accepting product on contracts worth over $100 million.

Trump and his minions can arbitrarily cut the government workforce but the quality of work will suffer

Private sector workers not at the top are undercompensated in general. They've been suppressed. Bout time they start seeing increases in their pay. We're in dire need of wage increases.

Those who were hired after 1980 did not have a choice on which system they belonged to.
They were placed in FERS

The same people whining about some govt employee making 60 grand will fall upon and worship the ceo making exorbitant amounts of money while their laborers are paid peanuts. So yeah I'm not too worried about it.

While we certainly can reduce the government headcount by at least 20% by getting them back to the office and working full days, let’s not forget how much money we taxpayers are paying for contractors.

The maximum compensation cost for a contractor is…..get ready for it….$646,000 a year! Many of these contractors are government retirees who set up a contracting firm for their sole client - the government department where they worked - and then continue to do their previous job, taking in a 6-figure pension plus billing $400 an hour.

I know someone who retired from the government, is collecting $100,000 plus in pension, and earning another $400,000 on his contract.

I worked for some years for a Navy contractor. We worked on Navy property and used all Navy equipment. I received a salary and benefits equivalent to a Navy specialist. It wasn't much. It was like being in the Navy except I didn't have to wear a uniform or salute anyone.

However, the company owner was getting millions for the operation. Except for one day in four years, I don't think he was within a thousand miles of the operation. Apparently, he was 'friends' with a Senator.

This operation could have been done a LOT cheaper by people who were direct employees of the department of the Navy. It could best be described as socialism with a big fat useless middleman.

If they really want to reduce government spending. Eliminate Federal Contractors, place the operations under the direct control of the Government and hire the workers directly.

😱
But that would be 'SOCIALISM"!

The HORROR!

You said today’s Civil Servants (such servants at $180,000 a year for woeking halfdays!) don’t get the cushy deal you did. Many still working, who weren’t greedy and didn’t take the buyout, are still on the system.

Anyone hired after 1980 are covered under FERS
Not many left under the old system (45 years)

I agree. But it would have to be done in conjunction with govt workers going to the office and working full days. Otherwise, they can goof off half the day and claim they need to hire a contractor to finish the work.

I know of two - both late 60s. They don’t want to retire because for the past five years, they get to roll out of bed, flip on the computer for a few hours, and get six-figure salaries.

They’ll quit if thet have to go into work.

Lot of overhead on Government Contractors.
The workers don’t get any of it but the owners do.

In the long term, Government employees are cheaper

Your second hand anecdotes are lame

Sorry sweetie, not many active employees still under Civil Service retirement
Your so called “friends” would have had their benefit maxed at 42 years. They are morons if they are still working

I don't see why Government workers would have to work in the office, but workers in private companies can work from home.

People get job assignments. Either they complete their assignments or they don't. If they do not they get fired. Yes, even under the current system government workers that do not do their jobs can be fired.

It's always funny that conservatives believe that everything is just so perfect in the private sector, but only government workers cheat.

I've worked for government contractors and for several companies in the private sector. Government is WAY, WAY more efficient than the private sector! The two aren't even close!

How many corporate zombies does it take to do a simple project?

Let's have a couple dozen meetings to figure it out! Don't forget to have them catered!

In the end we'll ask one of the low paid employees to give us the answer!

That’s because “still working” means glancing at the computer at home - and they get a lot of money for that.

Goodie, goodie gumdrops for you.

You're not the problem, just a symptom, the SYSTEM is the problem and thus needs to be gutted.
We can’t do anything about scammers like Rightwinger who exploited the system, but at least we can stop it going forward.

First thing: everyone needs to show up at their office on Jan 21. And that includes people who bought and work out of an Ocean City condo or a big house on the Eastern Shore.

That “bridge to retirement” covers you for three years before you are eligible for Social Security

I know, why should government employees get that when no one else does? It essentially lowers their retirement age by 3 years over anyone in the private sector. Feds should collect their SS the same time everyone else gets to.

People get job assignments. Either they complete their assignments or they don't. If they do not they get fired. Yes, even under the current system government workers that do not do their jobs can be fired.

Either an employee adds value or they don’t.

It makes no difference whether that is under close supervision or from home.

In spite of Trumps 1950s views on workforce management, the private sector is embracing work from home employment.
Employees love it and corporate gets to save on renting office space

If you want to hire the top employees today, you have to be flexible. You get what you pay for

I don't see why Government workers would have to work in the office, but workers in private companies can work from home.

Because taxpayers aren’t paying for the private employees,
People get job assignments. Either they complete their assignments or they don't. If they do not they get fired. Yes, even under the current system government workers that do not do their jobs can be fired.

What you are missing is that the assignments are very minimal because they have way too many workers among whom to divide the work.
It's always funny that conservatives believe that everything is just so perfect in the private sector, but only government workers cheat.
Again, taxpayers aren’t paying for cheating.

I've worked for government contractors and for several companies in the private sector. Government is WAY, WAY more efficient than the private sector! The two aren't even close!

I worked for the govt for one year. Couldn’t stand all the make-work chores and just hanging around with the other workers because there wasn’t enough work. Left for corporate, and that was cut-throat: they expected 12 hours a day. Found a nice mid-point with non-profits: enough work, used my talents, but decent work-life balance.
