Another place to cut government compensation cost

Because of the procurement process....contractors are easier to do needed jobs than hiring and adding staff.

However, as much as I hate to say it.....

AI can do 90% of what we have both employees and contractors do in the Federal Government. Just a matter of setting up the systems to do the work.
I don't know if AI could do the wife's old job as it required access to personal info like social security numbers, bank records, and the like.

She had all kinds of gizmos hooked to her .gov computer to keep that info safe.....She even had one for when she had to contact Treasury.

Let’s do the math:

Option 1: Pay government employee $150,000 and have her work a full day to do the job.

Option 2: Pay government employee $150,000 and let her work three hours a day from home, and then pay a contractor $300 an hour for the remaining 5 hours.

Now multiply by 200,000+ employees dong the same, and you’re talking real money.
Option 3
Evaluate employees work output whether they work on site or from home

While we certainly can reduce the government headcount by at least 20% by getting them back to the office and working full days, let’s not forget how much money we taxpayers are paying for contractors.

The maximum compensation cost for a contractor is…..get ready for it….$646,000 a year! Many of these contractors are government retirees who set up a contracting firm for their sole client - the government department where they worked - and then continue to do their previous job, taking in a 6-figure pension plus billing $400 an hour.

I know someone who retired from the government, is collecting $100,000 plus in pension, and earning another $400,000 on his contract.

On the bright side, the convenient thing with government contractors is that executive can dismiss them without running afoul of civil service laws.

Personally, I think all federal employees should be gig-workers, we'll call you if we need you.

Yup…..and those doing three hours of work a day clearly aren’t needed.

What is more important?
The quality of work or punching a clock

Good point. But in addition to that, the compensation should be capped at the GS-15 level.

I wonder how many contractors who worked on the Obamacare website for four years and STILL didn’t work right on launch day were earning $646,000 a year.

Hell…..pay me $2 million and I too can spend four years developing a failed website!

Both. We need full-time employees doing 8 hours of quality work a day.

We do NOT need 8 hours of work that needs doing, with three employees sharing the workload.

Yeah....actually much simpler and quicker. But it's legislation that caused that to happen. Left Hand not allowed to see the Right Hand type stuff.
Which is security and privacy concerns. Which is one of a myriad of reasons we are kinda upset with the NSA.
Spying on the American citizens is not supposed to happen. Foreign visitors? Them are just fine to spy upon (unless they vote democrat) but otherwise....it's a mess of legislation to navigate through just to do simple tasks.

We once had Marshall Dillon & Festus as the enforcers of quality g'ment in a city named DODGE. At current we have Marshall Musk & Ramaswamy as the enforcers of quality g'ment in a dept. called DOGE! History repeats itself again!!!
Both are fantasies

Congrats

Or just make shit up and pretend outrage

Double dipping after retirement was the best part of working for the Government.
I retired at 55 at 65 percent pay and then was rehired to my old job at the salary I had left.

And this why your opinion about the government is worthless. You're a taker, of course you're going to do and say anything to protect the hand that feeds you. You should feel shame, but we all know that will never happen.

Not necessary, a ChatGPT sub only costs $20 a month and can do a better job than the vast majority of the mindless, bureaucrat keyboard jockeys we now employ, not to mention it doesn't spend half the day surfing porn websites.:p

I am very proud of what I achieved in working for the Government for 40 years.
It was a rewarding career

How about paying them for the actual amount of time they have on the clock working, like everyone in the private sector.

I'm sure you are, like I said, you're a taker that's hell bent on preserving the 'system' that overcompensated you your entire life.

Cost cutting vx unintended consequences.

There is currently a desire to cut government spending to eliminate waste. However, there are ALWAYS unintended consequences for doing so.
Biden found out when the baby formula factory got shut down that produced most of the baby formula in the USA. All Brands were affected.

The unintended consequences were that there became a shortage of baby formula in the USA. Granted, the cleanliness standards had become lax at the factory due to a lack of testing and site visits....but the results were devastating.

Or the new cancer drug for treating cancer which replaced very toxic alternatives....sounded great. A much better approach to curing cancer than the alternative treatment. Until all those using the drug began to lose their lower jaw bone.

The government is complex for a reason. It's not simple to ensure domestic tranquility and have oversight. Meaning....that dumbass who does 30 minutes of work every week and is otherwise annoying as all get out keeps us from having WW3 accidentally. It's that dumb and stupid at times.

Much of Government contracting involves boiler plate contracts modified for a specific contract.
Right now those contractual clauses are cut and pasted into a new contract. AI is capable of doing much the same but still needs human oversight and proof reading

And libtard makes it personal - rather than address the INSANE policies of paying contractors as much as $646,000 when the government is operating at a deficit.
Using "libtard" tells us all we need to know....about you, child.

As an engineer, I was undercompensated compared to what defense contractor engineers were receiving.
My only advantage was job security, unlimited mobility in positions and being able to retire a 55
