American patients first: Trump orders drugmakers to match lowest global prices

I would rather this go through Congress and signed by Trump, while I feel this is a good idea as it targets everyone and not just Medicare recipients, I just wished we used less EOs and more working with Congress.

Any thoughts about the good the bill can do or using EO’s?
I would rather they not do anything.

If they think they can make them cut prices, then they think they know something.

Otherwise, the companies will just take them off the market altogether. Not much of a win there.

They got has no authority to regulate prices in the private sector.

You operate as programmed.

We do not live in pre 1913 America. We live in a high tax environment with an expensive social services agenda that is rising. Our economy is susceptible to inflation more easily now that we have had endless yearly deficits whether the times were good or not so good. So, the wages are near stagnant the last few decades or so as taxes incrementally increase. The industrial age has given us many other ages of large corporate entities. So, free trade arguments in a world where we do not have real free trade. It is the younger people who will pay the piper in this nation.

It would be better if he went through congress to do it. The problem is that if he did, the final bill passed might accomplish what he wanted, but most of the bill would have been written up to build multi-billion dollar boondoggles in Senator's home states.

Good point, then what do we do? It talks about prices getting in alignment with other countries pricing, the US operational costs are higher than other countries, and also what about standards, some countries standards are lower than ours.

Why do you all think the that government should have the power to dictate prices? Are we going full socialist now?

Opening the market to other countries would be the best option. The fed gov has us cut off from most imports.
That would give big pharma a reality check.
You mean roll back bad regulation, instead of passing more bad regulation!?!?

That's crazy talk.

Price controls. Exactly.

As I have been saying since 2016, Trump is a far left limousine liberal New York Democrat pied piper leading his followers into the far left cave.

Leave it to a lefty to be in favor of the US subsidizing other countries healthcare at our expense. If single-payer, Socialized medicine is so fantastic, they shouldn't have a problem paying more or perhaps developing medicines on their own. Oh wait, they don't do that because there isn't enough incentive for pharmaceuticals in their country to do the research for the peanuts they have been paying for medicine, thanks to the US consumer and US pharmaceutical companies. I for one am very happy that prices will be normalized. You should be too. The only ones that won't be happy are these other countries who are basically on the US consumer's dole.

I don't. However when the companies use their US facilities to create and produce a drug, then sell it in this country for one price, and in foreign countries for as low as 10% of what it sells for here, something must be done.

First off Congress needs to ban lobbying from big corporations, including pharma, and involving government never seems to turn out well, I can see work around, bigger companies get stronger, R&D going downhill, small pharmaceuticals going away. It seems government corrupts.

Yeah, I don't get why Democrats don't like this. Price controls are right up their alley.

I suppose they're just jealous that Trump thought of it first.
