Alabama Honors Rosa Parks with Rosa Parks Day

Long overdo but a damn ugly statue that does nothing to capture the dignity of Rosa Parks

Maybe they awarded the contract to create it based on affirmative action rather than merit?

Stupid post
Whose, yours?

Sure, I'll agree.

Civil Rights protesters were American Patriots fighting for freedom

The south needs to move away from celebrating a despicable Confederacy to celebrating it true patriots

Those who fought for Civil Rights

How about allowing for both?

Part of the healing process between the north and the south after the war was to let them remember their war dead as they saw fit.
The south has a long way to go

Daughters of the confederacy placed a monument or statue in every town square.

I don’t see the same passion to honor the South’s civil rights legacy. Civil Rights was more noble. They had a legitimate grievance

One doesn't need to destroy one part of history to honor another.

Nothing is stopping anyone from forming the "Daughters of the Civil Rights Movement" and having them sponsor monuments and such.

The confederacy is not American history. They seceded from the union and ceased to be Americans.

Wrong. they were welcomed back as Americans at the end of the war in part, and at the end of reconstruction in entirety.

The war was to bring them back into the fold, and that's what was done.

Why should we allow traitors to be honored on american soil?

It goes beyond that

They celebrate the confederacy itself. The south leaving the rest of the country. They yearn for the good ole days

Why should we allow traitors to be honored on american soil?

Because as part of the peace, most of them were rehabilitated after the war.

Again, the object was to make them be part of the country again, not to drive them away into exile or exterminate them.

And that's a small price to pay to still not be fighting a guerilla war in the South, as some proposed.

Part of getting them to come back in peacefully was to allow them to honor their lost cause as they saw fit.

You notice the requirements for reconstruction of the States did not include bans on such tributes or honors.

I love that Rosa was recognized but she wasnt the first to stand up to racism on the buses. This young lady was the first. Claudette Clovin

Before Rosa Parks, There Was Claudette Colvin

I’m sure there were many blacks who resisted Jim Crow laws and were either beaten up or arrested

Only Rosa Parks started a movement. Doesn’t negate the sacrifices others made
Claudette was actually one of the people that were involved in the suit Browder v. Gayle that got the segregation law on the buses overturned. The only reason she wasnt picked in Rosas spot was because she was 15 at the time and later got pregnant. The NAACP thought that would be used to dirty the image of their cause.

If they arent over it now then tough shit. Isnt that what they say to the descendants of the enslaved?

Who's stopping anyone from making statues to the slaves?

Have at it.

We sold out the black population of the south and allowed them to institute Jim Crow as a replacement to slavery

That is why Rosa Parks is so important

Slaves were 40 percent of the population of the Confederacy. Why don’t they get 40 percent of the statues ?

Who's "we"?

No one from that time period is still alive.

White people did. The point is that they say Blacks should be over it yet they keep yearning to be a different country. No reason to honor traitors.

Back then. Now you can probably get plenty of statues and memorials if you so choose.

They were rehabilitated as part of the peace process.

Part of the peace process is to stop yearning for the very thing that made you a combatant and traitor. These inbreds are still flying the confederate flag which is a symbol of hate and their intentions of further strife.

Pesky thing, freedom of speech.

That you can get triggered by someone else flying a flag shows what a wibble pussy whipped cuck you are.

Theyre the ones that are triggered. Thats why they still fly that flag. If they want to be traitors let them pay for it and put the statues on their own private property.
