I remember them, they were caused by OPEC cutting production, not shipping losses. in 1984, 28 ships were attacked by EITHER Iraq or Iran. Of those ONE was sunk, and seven received severe damage. In 1987, 86 ships were attacked, with 4 sunk and 10 severely damaged. In 1988, 83 ships were attacked with 2 sunk and 13 receiving severe damage. Most attacks involved boats with outboard motors shooting RPGs and machine guns. Some Silkworms were involved against unescorted ships. Those attacks cost Iran half of its navy destroyed as well as several offshore drilling platforms.
I made no reference to shipping loss. The oil stopped.
