I think Trump is seriously aware of how close we have come to WWIII. If we take on Russia militarily, we are immediately at war also with China, North Korea and Iran and likely several others. And NATO and others who have mutual defense treaties with us are required to join with us in the fray.

Brokering a lasting cease fire is in the interest not only of the Ukranians and Russians who are dying by the hundreds of thousands with a very conservative estimate of the dead and wounded surpassing one million, but in the interest of the USA and the entire world.

Trump is the most anti-globalist, anti war, most especially senseless endless wars, that we have had for a President in a very long time.

I'm pretty sure Putin wants that cease fire. I'm not sure Zelensky does.

Nato and the US entering the war in Ukraine directly would be seen as an existential threat by Russia and put the World on the precipice of WW III. Trump will not allow that to happen.

We can encourage reform best by example, by trade agreements that encourage free trade, and otherwise hope they see the benefits in being a more free and people oriented society.
