A question for Christians only please

ninja, your forgiveness is in Christ always.

He will forgive you as much as necessary.

Get a work out plan going, stay away from folks AND places who lead to porn and other acts that bother your conscience, and fill them with good folks and places.

Do not put yourself in the hands of another human, particularly a pastor, for their surely is the path of danger. BP is correct: read Paul with a pound of salt ~ he had his sins, too.

You are in my prayers.

lol, no- I was saying he did not teach what you said; I hit the wrong button...

Dude that is exactly what he was teaching. Paul was an apocalypticist. He was teaching his followers that the end was close so there is no need to change your status because it's all about to end anyhow.

1 Corinthians 7 lays it out completely. Don't fuck unless you have to, don't get married, don't get divorced, don't try to get freedom from slavery, etc. He justifies this position in two places.

1 Corinthians 7:26: "Because of the present crisis, I think that it is good for a man to remain as he is." There isn't a good English translation. The Greek word translated into crisis means....uh....trials, tribulations...it is an apolcalypitic word that refers to the coming apocalypse.

1 Corinthians 7:29: " What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short." In the Greek it would be better translated as "the season is approaching" which fits perfectly into the idea of Jesus being the "first fruit". It is an allusion to the harvest where the first fruits would be gathered, there would be a celebration and a feast and the next day the rest of the crop would be gathered. According to Paul Jesus was the first fruit so he was telling everyone to just sit tight because they're next.

He is telling the people of Corinth: "don't bother getting married, getting divorced, or doing anything to change your status. There is no point. The apocalypse is almost here. We are going to be gone soon so it doesn't make any sense to change your status because we will all be in heaven shortly".

Paul is a lot more intelligent than your stupid theory portrays him.

Only seriously stupid people would bother telling people not to bother.

Well you know...ok...believe what you want, but that's was Paul's message throughout Corinthians, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians...pretty much all over the place. I mean that was one of his most pressing issues was the apocalyptic message which was overwhelmingly dominant in the 1st century CE. So...you know...whatever you want to go with, knock yourself out. It makes no difference to me really, but...well...there it is.

If you aren't going to take my actual, serious advice about working out, making yourself look good and feel good, adjusting your appearance, and then finding a girl to enjoy physically...

Just... go get a Jesus tattoo on the palm of your hand lol

Problem solved

Dude, you're the one pushing a quack explanation. You might be better off saying that "water is not wet."

thanks guys, and yes its porn. Regarding J.R.- I agree. I do not party, drink, do drugs, smoke, gamble. My two main vices are porn and food. I do not hang out with the wrong crowd. I'm kind of a loner. I'm 42, single, no kids.

TBH I have not been to my church in forever. I do pray every day many times a day, read and post in here and on another Christian Board for fellowship, read the Word..not as much as I should though.

I will take everyone's advice and always praying. I think I'm just not "trying" hard enough to stop. I can go several days at a time but then I sin like that for one, 2, 3 days in a row...rinse and repeat. FOR YEARS. I thought this sin would get "better" after knowing God. ughhh.
Porn is a powerful addiction; prayer and counsel are often ineffective.

Lose the Internet. You can still access it at a library or at work or on your phone, if need be.

It's really stupid, on the level of "water is not wet" in idiocy.

Well you are saying that Paul was stupid then, because that's what he taught. I personally wouldn't call Paul stupid. Actually I think he was brilliant, although at the same time very impatient, arrogant, ambitious, and sometimes pretty brutal. I mean this is the guy who wrote in Galatians that he hoped the knife would slip when they were doing circumcisions and they cut their dicks off. I mean....DAAAAAAMMMMNNNN! But you know....like I said....whatever you want to believe won't affect me a bit, so have fun with it.

You might want to do some research. My explanation is the one that is embraced and accepted by the vast....VAST majority of Biblical scholars. If you went to nearly any Biblical scholar and tried to argue that Paul was not an apocalypticist they would look at you as if you were from another planet.

Which book is the gospel of porn?

I would suggest Song of Songs. That was pretty close to ancient porn. There's some good racy stuff in some of the accounts of David and Bathsheba as well if I recall correctly. Genesis 38 has some particularly interesting tidbits about Judah screwing his daughter-in-law, Tamar. The Bible isn't all grace and glory. There's some crazy shit that happens in there.

So you are saying that people who have PhD's in Biblical history, theology, who have studied it all their adult lives, who read scripture in their original languages, and understand the cultural context of antiquity are...idiots? And you apparently know better than them and support your position with such deep, insightful pontification such as "You're an idiot espousing pig theology.". Gotcha! Well...you know...I have to say. I too have studied such things all my life in similar ways as all those idiot scholars, and since you say that that myself and all those scholars are wrong I will just toss all that over my shoulder and do what you apparently do and believe what everyone tells me to believe.

Does anyone have an IQ eraser? If I am going to embrace this new path I am going to need it.

Ninja, Jesus does know your heart, and is the strongest where you are weakest. Don't blame yourself, fortify yourself. Give it to God and whenever Satan puts the thought in your mind, refuse to accommodate it at once. Remove it immediately and hum a favorite hymn or concentrate on a favorite verse. Darkness and light can not inhabit the same place at the same time, so in the presence of light, darkness has to flee.
Problem with that is, when an evil spirit leaves, it creates a vacancy. The spirit your dealing with can return and refill that vacancy and bring a dozen of his friends, so when you dismiss that thought, be sure to fill it with the Spirit of the Lord. You may have to call on His Spirit every 5 minutes for a while, because what you're struggling with is pleasurable and habitual, and almost impossible to avoid in this day and age.
This is a mind over matter situation. His mind over your matter. Have a favorite Christian book to lose yourself in or a favorite tape to sing to and make a tangible move to switch habits. Rely on the Spirit of God to conquer the darkness, every single time it shows up and then relax. There is nothing He can't do.
In fact refer to the habit in the past tense, as if the problem is already solved. Avoid pitfalls, and if there are times the force is worse than others, challenge your mind with a new interest. Build something in the evenings, paint something, write about your strength, find a Bible study group. Christ is stronger than any problem you have. So are you. Tell your mind, no.

I have been a Christian since 1997, accepted Christ as my Savior back then. I have been dealing with the same sin for years and years. I blame it 100% on myself, no excuses. I feel hopeless many many times partly because of this same sin I keep committing. I pray each day for forgiveness from this sin, and all my others.

Have any of you guys (Christians please) deal with one sin over and over again, repent or at least try to and keep falling into the same sin? Honest answers please and please do not judge me. I trust God and have faith we will get through this but it has been years. I actually have been committing this sin since I was a child in the 80's.

Would like to hear your stories, advice and thoughts. Whether you have come through it to the other side or still "stuck" in it. Thank you. I guess the Holy Spirit convicting me still after all this time is a good thing? Otherwise I would be even in deeper trouble?

eta- I'm not asking for pity or justification as I know this particular sin is wrong (all sin is wrong but you know what I mean). I feel daily like there is an internal struggle to do good and not bad, but often I do the bad anyway KNOWING I'm doing bad and hurting myself and disappointing God:(
When repenting doesn't work -- seek another religion. Maybe one not so focused on silly old sin
