'A cavity is not a vagina': Trans woman refused healthcare in France

15 Sep 2023 ~~ By By Laura Llach & Johan Bodinier

The French doctor admitted he didn't have the training or knowledge to treat trans patients - as experts say there's no need for a trans woman to visit a gynaecologist at all.
"I only treat real women" - that's what French gynaecologist Victor Acharian told a 26-year-old transgender woman he refused to treat in his clinic in the south-west of the country recently.
The transgender woman, accompanied by her boyfriend, went to a gynaecological appointment when, after minutes of waiting, the secretary told her that the doctor had refused to see her.
"I told her that I'm not competent, but I can guide you. I can refer you to services that can take better care of you. But after I said that, things went south," gynaecologist Victor Acharian told Euronews.
"I thought I was being honest when I said it wasn't my speciality. I don't know how to treat them and I don't mind being called ignorant," he added.
"You're transphobic!" the young woman reportedly shouted as she left the consulting room. According to the gynaecologist, the patient began to insult his secretary, reacting violently to the refusal.

‘A cavity is not a classic vagina’

Although gynaecology is still associated with specialised care for women, it's not that simple anymore.
Doctors claim that a lack of knowledge makes it difficult for them to treat transgender people, while 50% of transgender people cancel or delay their medical appointments to avoid discrimination, according to the latest report published by Doctors of the World in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals.
"Just because it's a cavity doesn't mean it's a classic vagina," Acharian explains, admitting his lack of knowledge about transgender patients. The doctor claims that this person was the first transgender woman he had seen in his thirty years of practice.
The challenge for medicine is to find new ways of dealing with changing social norms, as transgender people are still under-represented in medical curricula - but the story is changing.

‘More and more’ trans people

All this at a time when the number of transition requests is on the rise.
For 2020 in France, around 3,300 people were recognised by the health insurance scheme as having a long-term condition for "gender dysphoria", ten times more than in 2013, according to a report submitted in January 2022 to France’s Ministry of Health.
"There is no recommendation for a transgender woman to have regular gynaecological check-ups, unless she has a surgical problem related to the operation, because she doesn't have a uterus or a cervix," she added.
However, Ravn said that transgender women can have issues related to their surgery that require some kind of gynaecological assessment, so it's important to have specialists with knowledge in this area.
All the reports suggest that health professionals will one day have to treat transgender people.
Without proper training, these professionals "run the risk of adopting inappropriate attitudes that are not necessarily transphobic in intent - but have the same negative effects".

Commentary:
Only today can our world be so incredibly stupid that we have to play pretend with mentally ill people, or risk harm.
If I were a physician confronted with this, I would have referred her to the Doctor(s) that performed the atrocious surgeries.
Gynecologists specialize in women's reproductive systems. Only real women have them.

Some of these folks have "vaginas" fashioned from parts of their colon. Which means they need to visit a GI?

Reminds me of that freak from Canaduh, that calls himself “Jessica Yaniv”.

One of his better-known antics was to go to places that do pubic-hair removal on women, and demand that service of them, then sue them for discriminations when they refuse.

Now, although he claims to be a woman, he is very clearly,. obviously a man, and the methods used to remove pubic hair from a woman's pubic area don't apply very well to men's pubic areas. Aside from the fact that the staff at all the places he went to are understandably squickish about handling a strange man's genitalia, they all demurred that the methods and materials that they had just weren't suited to it.

It seems somewhat analogous to this case. A gynecologist is a physician that specializes in treating those parts that are unique to women. A “trans woman”, not being a woman at all, but a mutilated man, simply would not have the parts that a gynecologist is specialized to treat.

Sticky situation. I can see the doctors point . I can see the transgender point. So either the doctor needs to increase his knowledge or the the person needs to find a doctor who is more knowledgeable. The person may have overreacted as it is a sensitive issue and the doctor could have talked to the person and say that he is not familiar with that particular anatomy. Instead of sending the nurse out to relay the message.

Maybe trans people who have reconstructive surgery should make sure they have doctors who specialize in their unique anatomy lined up BEFORE they go through with the surgery.

They don’t have the right to go to gynecologists (who specialize in “traditional” female reproductive anatomy) nor to expect a general practitioner to be knowledgeable in such an uncommon elective procedure.

It's not a matter of the doctor having insufficient knowledge.

It's entirely a matter of a mentally-fucked-up make freak demanding treatment from a doctor that is specialized for treating parts that the freak simply does not have.

It'd be like me taking a broken refrigerator to an automobile mechanic, and demanding that the mechanic fix it. An automobile mechanic doesn't fix refrigerators. That's not his job; that's not what he is qualified to do. If I want my refrigerator fixed, then I need to take it to someone that is qualified to fix refrigerators.

Jessica Yanev did go to a gynecologist. As Jessica has elected to keep his penis and testicles there is nothing for a gynecologist to do. He sued. I don't know how that turned out.

Appliance repairs. Sometimes you might bring something in that the person cannot work on for any variety of reasons. Should he be rude and just tell you to get lost , because he does not do that type of work.

The point that I am making is that he is still a doctor. A person seeking medical help walked in and asked for assistance. In a civilized manner tell the person that he does not do that type of examinations and the person should see another physician. I am just saying that there is no reason to be rude.

Hippocratic oath - section of it.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues

GE - GastroEnterologist

More appropriate would be a colorectal surgeon.
It's not nice to try to fool Mother Nature. S*** happens, real bad.

Regarding studies regarding homosexual couples and violence, a recent study by the Canadian government regarding homosexual couples states that "violence was twice as common among homosexual couples compared with heterosexual couples".[2] According the American College of Pediatricians who cite several studies violence among homosexual couples is two to three times more common than among married heterosexual couples.[3] In addition, the American College of Pediatricians states the following: "Homosexual partnerships are significantly more prone to dissolution than heterosexual marriages with the average homosexual relationship lasting only two to three years."[3]

Boy Scouts of America to begin paying $2.4 billion to over 82,000 sexual abuse victims

After emerging from bankruptcy, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) reached a settlement to pay over 82,000 abuse victims using a massive trust fund.

According to CNN, the Victims Compensation Trust was established after a Delaware judge approved the plan in 2022 during the BSA's bankruptcy reorganization.

Over $2.4 billion will be used to pay out to over 82,000 victims who claim they were sexually abused as children by the organization's leaders and volunteers. The sum represents approximately $30,000 per person.

“This is a significant milestone for the BSA as we emerge from a three-year financial restructuring process with a global resolution approved with overwhelming support of more than 85% of the survivors involved in the case,” said chief scout executive, president, and CEO Roger Mosby.

“Our hope is that our Plan of Reorganization will bring some measure of peace to survivors of past abuse in Scouting, whose bravery, patience and willingness to share their experiences has moved us beyond words,” his statement read...............
