$5.49 a gallon for gas in Los Angeles

Of course, this has nothing to do with policy, and everything to do with the unfortunate coincidence of problems at more than one refinery at the same time. Not that these wingnut sacks care.

Say what, lol...

Tell us again needle dick how much tax is it a gallon in California?

.

61.2 cents per gallon state tax on gasoline and 86.93 cents per gallon state tax on diesel.

Plus an additional 18.4 cents per gallon federal tax on gasoline and 24.4 cents per gallon federal tax on diesel.

Fuel taxes in the United States - Wikipedia

Not sure how current that is.

"The West Coast has 27 refineries in operation today, down by more than half from 1983, when 55 refineries were in operation. Prices continue to surge due to CARB-mandated fuels, which are not easy to produce, in addition to the nation's highest gas tax and also carbon program adding to the price of fuel..."

They're doing this to themselves. Now why do you think they're down to 27 refineries? Take a wild guess.

Of course, it could be worse: Europe's gas prices are reaching about $8.00 a gallon.. Loads of taxes to pay for free shit, ya know. Socialism isn't free.
Sorry, that is not the ecplanation for the current price spike. That is an explanation fot why California is typically 50 cents over the national average., not the current $2. Sorry pal, swing and a miss.

Actually according to AAA,. the national average of gasoline today is $2.646 per gallon. California's average price per gallon is $4.187.

Now what is $4.187 minus $2.646? A bit more than 50 cents?

Why don't Californians just take the High Speed Rail they are paying out the ass for?

They've been working on the train for more than a decade.

Because they gave up on the idea of a solar-powered train and now they can't find a big enough rubber band to power it?

I'm just guessing here. :04:

I've lived in California, the Bay Area. I quickly realized it was the COASTAL metro areas that were NUTS, not the interior of the state. However, L.A., San Fran and others control the state due to their huge population, just like NYC Metro rules New York State. It has become a collective, socialist hell hole, and devolving into Mexico.

Yep, the tax hurts but our gas is expensive because of supply and demand. We have an artificial shortage due to POLICY ( which someone denies). California has its own summer and winter blends so we cant get gas from other parts of the country unless we pay a premium price for them to change their own refinery formula.
In other words we create a very small pool of gas to choose from for a lot of population.

Some of those refinery problems SOMEONE is talking about, happen because of the switchover between blends, and apparently the summer blend is difficult to make and they sometimes screw up.

We also used to have almost 30 refineries and now we only have 11 ... even though the population has grown. It absolutely has to do with environmental and other policies. Wether those policies are right or wrong can be a separate discussion, but I remember in the 90's when Republican Governor Pete Wilson sold us out to the wackos.... they forced refineries to add MTBE to the gas as an additive. Almost immediately there were problems because the State officials who pushed their POLICY through on us, failed to realize in their genius that this additive would eat through the bottom of many fuel storage tanks at gas stations... closing down businesses, contaminating the ground and ground water wells, it even ran too hot and peoples engines were catching on fire on the freeway. Of course, no one paid for their policy mistakes. It's been a long time ago, but Im pretty sure they fixed it all by raising taxes.
