At least a third of them could exist without NATO or the US military, by allying with Russia or China instead. Hardly a good idea to cut ties and give more ground to Russia or China.

Yes, it is only since WWII that the Japanese could be described at 'peaceful.' Same goes for Austria. As well, Belgium is a country that is mixed French and German, so a country that is multicultural.
Funny too that these RWs go on and on about how horrible the EU is, how they are socialist countries, and yet, here is one saying that their economies are strong because the are not multicultural. Their economies are all EU, socialist economies. When I lived and worked in Austria, I paid 40% in taxes. In the US, I would have paid about 15% based on my income. All of those countries he mentions, with "good economies" have high taxes and a lot of intervention from government--and very strict gun laws. When you have very strict gun laws, a country is more likely to be peaceful. The OP's view of things appears to be one dimensional.

Finland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and Japan, are socially liberal, but have conservative governments by world standards.
New Zealand is an outlier, having a conservative government that is pro free market, but is liberal when it comes to same-sex marriage and abortion.
Of the nations mentioned, only Switzerland, Austria, and Japan have restrictive immigration policies or 'lack of diversity', if by diversity you mean that 30-40% of the population are of different cultures or racial groups.
I've lived in Austria and there are many, many Turkish people there. I would not say at all that Austria lacks diversity. I would also not call its government conservative, and especially would not say any Scandinavian country has a conservative government, far from it.
As well, Switzerland, with a combination of Swiss, French and Italians making up their population is a multicultural society.

Eh? Russia has a navy, as does China, and later is slowly getting an aircraft carrier. They have a lot of catch up to do, but are hardly defenseless.
