10/2020: Solar is now ‘Cheapest Electricity in History’, confirms IEA

I sent a proposal to President Biden suggesting that government and industry should work together on this to transform all those flat roofs in industrial, commercial and enterprise zones into solar factories. It would be a win-win for everyone.
You haven't been paying attention to Amazon buildings have you... Five fires in these "roof top" solar arrays happened because the heat of that location degrades the panels and when they short out it becomes a never-ending fire until the whole array is consumed.

Why the hell do you think insurance companies are charging massive policy amounts for roof top collectors on homes these days... the technology is not yet ready for prime time. During the day all you can do is surround and drown because you cannot shut off the sun. All you can do is watch it burn and protect adjacent structures.

For those who don't understand how absorbed temperature is different than air temperature, here is a sign for people who walk their animals which demonstrates how hot roofing is.

Now think about how hot those solar panels get and how fast they will degrade under those conditions.

Solar is now ‘cheapest electricity in history’, confirms IEA

October 2020

""The world’s best solar power schemes now offer the “cheapest…electricity in history” with the technology cheaper than coal and gas in most major countries.

That is according to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2020. The 464-page outlook, published today by the IEA, also outlines the “extraordinarily turbulent” impact of coronavirus and the “highly uncertain” future of global energy use over the next two decades....."

`
/——/ Well then, shut off your electric and pop those panels on your roof. What’s not to like?

No you unspeakable Moron.
""85% of New power generation in 2021 was from Renewables.""
85% of all the New spending on generation was renewables.
DUH!
`
Wtf? Did people forget how to learn from others' mistakes? Germany is fucked right now because of Solar.

Let's not do what they did, k? TIA.

"...they literally destroy. 1000's of square miles. Cutting down trees, cactus, destroying the wildlife?"

You literally a partisan blind story teller.

Windmills go mostly on remote hillsides, prairie, Off shore, and farmers get paid for dotting their empty fields with them.

The best places for solar are arid or desert with few to no "trees." (not to mention house rooftops as good insulation)
(Off the grid naturalists/'homesteaders' cut down trees every day to live 'free.' Watch those Alaska shows.)

Meanwhile you can't walk the street of many parts of China or India without a mask/choking to death on Coal and other Fossil Fuel Particulate that kills or shortens the life of millions.
Not to mention those who live downstream of fossil plants here (and acid rain). And Coal mining/black lung isn't pretty either.

What a goofy tale you made up just to be a RWer.

`
Acid rain? The 70s called and want their environmental policies back! Acid rain was basically eliminated by coal plants using scrubbers.

So windmills are gone.
How many trees were cut down for the ONE solar plant?
It's estimated we could power the whole country with one large solar plant in the Four Corner area of the SW taking a tiny peace of each of those states... and no more

If done properly we would SAVE money going renewable because as old Fossil driven ones expire we won't have to spend $1 Trillion to REPLACE them.
The "600 million" was based on decade old figures. Solar is 85% more efficient now.
and it did not include the cost of replacing obsolete Fossil plants at just as much money, but less ongoing cost/fuel for solar.

`
Transmission losses would make this impossible. The person who dreamed this up has never calculated the resistance losses in power lines.

Yes and in combination with a "cap and trade" approach. I was listening to an news story about how Cap and Trade actually assisted helpfully in the war on acid rain.

Yes, scrubbers were the key as well as choice of coal field (my home state lost a lot of access to their coal because of sulfur), but the corporations were able to do it if they could also do cap and trade type offsets.

The other key thing to remember is that many of the same people who currently work to cast doubt on climate science were involved in casting doubt on both CFC's and Acid Rain (as well as Tobacco).

They were wrong and thankfully we pursued the RIGHT thing. But they keep bringing them out.

THey tend to be effective at generating doubt in the minds of those who don't understand the science.

Ummm, really? REALLY? Germany has been on Russian gas pipelines for YEARS now. The reason Germany is having a tough time is because those gas lines are being cut off by Vlad Putin (you might remember him as the vicious bloodthirsty dictator who kills his opponents and started the war in Ukraine).

So perhaps a more subtle understanding of the topic is called for?

My neighbors did and they LOVE IT! I live up north here in the Pacific Northwest and their solar panels have kept them from paying an electric bill in several years!

It's a great thing! I'm definitely considering it!

Nice deflection. Nothing about cheap renewables.

In that actual FACTS change the incorrect impression by the other posters? That's not "Deflection". That's called clarification.
What actual facts was in your post on cheap electricity in Germany? No where
