The answer to the threads title is that as ice caps begin more rapidly melting, the high specific heat required to change from solid ice to liquid water is drawn away from other areas on the globe.

You’d have to understand the physics behind phase changes in chemistry to understand weird cold snaps away from the shrinking polar ice. So that’s why threads like this ask these questions that scientists already know.

Water has a high specific heat. Other molecules have less which is why some boil over/evaporate at very little energy applied, like efficient refrigerants & why you seemingly have to wait forever for a pot of water to boil.
