Why "Fast and Furious" will become another Republican Debacle

No, it wasn't. F & F started in 2009. Stop repeating the lie, none of us is going to believe it.

No lie at all.

It was called something different, "Wide Receiver".

Can you be any more ridiculous, Sallow? Wide Receiver was stopped in 2007 when the Mexican government, who were in on it, informed the DOJ that they couldn't track the guns. Fast & Furious, OTOH, was started by Holder's DOJ in 2009 WITHOUT the knowledge or cooperation of the Mexican government, and wasn't stopped until 3 ATF agents blew the whistle on it.

Sallow seemed to miss this one... How odd.. ;) Good post.

No they don't.

What they have are "gotchas" and out of context messaging in communications.

He's been called to testify 9 times. That's some kind of record.

The 9/11 commission...which wrapped up in under a year, called people from Clinton's and Bush's administration, even though 9/11 occurred 8 months after Clinton was out of office. Add in that Cheney was allowed to testify in private and didn't swear to anything. Same with Bush.

Add in..the Bush administration was allowed to check the report before it went out to the public and edited it. Notably parts that implicated the Saudis.

THAT represented the BIGGEST security debacle in American history..and it wasn't nearly as "intensive".

And by "intensive", I mean extremely partisan.

Yes they do.
It wasn't partisan at all last year.

Eyah..

Conservative website.

In any case..the whole thing is essentially bullshit.

The program was stopped. And the "investigation" has stopped on the door of Democrats.

It's a farce.

So it's wrong just because it's a conservative web site?
Never mind that the hearing revealed it and was broadcast on c-span.
It was stopped because of the agents who reported it.
The investigation has stopped? I don't think so.
It's a farce?
Wanting to find out what really happened and to hold those accountable for a boarder control agent's death and Mexican citizens is not a farce.

The fact that the Republicans are actively working to get this story to dominate the news is seriously amusing in light of the GOP's constant ranting about how it's Obama and the Democrats who don't want to talk about the economy.

You guys don't give a shit about Brian Terry and his Family. All you care about is saving your Dear Leader & Holder's asses. You Obamabots are shameful.

Obama Flufflers.

The Republican Party has become the party of "Ah Ha". They think they have a new scheme. A new way to attack the president. To avoid responsibility. The problem with this current debacle is they struck "too soon".

If this had happened, say two weeks before the election, it might have had a chance to actually cause damage to the first African American Attorney General and the first African American President, but with this much time, people will learn the truth. And truth has proven to be the deadly enemy to this current Republican Party.

So forget the fact that Bush used Executive Privilege 6 times while Obama has used it this once. And what did Bush use it for? Things like protecting whoever outed a covert CIA agent, something people other than Republicans think of as "treason".

Forget the fact this program was "officially started" in 2006.

Forget the fact the agent killed wasn't killed with one of these guns.

Forget the fact Holder ordered this program stopped when he found out about it.

Just this simple one thing, when pointed out to thinking Americans, will prove this to be the scheme it is.

When an operation, such as this is put into effect, it takes years of planning. It's no accident is was started in 2006. You know something like this was going on for years. Because it takes years to train people. To make contacts. To put the operation in place. To acquire materials and knowledge. To gather intel. This entire operation began in an area of the country hostile to Obama with people who are Republicans to the core.

Holder didn't enter office with this huge operation already planned out and put in place on day one. It's ludicrous.

Look at the operation that took out Bin Laden after Republicans let him go and stopped looking for him. And it was a very small operation involving a limited number of people. And how long did they plan before the operation went into effect? How much training was involved? How much intel was acquired?

When the size and scope of "Operation Fast and Furious" is revealed and when it started and when Eric Holder took office, it will become apparent this is another attack on Obama by way of Holder. Now for these right wingers, it doesn't matter. They just don't care about truth. I believe my all time favorite post here was when some right winger said Iraq was Obama's fault. That we never should have invaded. This is the same kind of thing.

Rdean you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Anyone that is familiar with the specifics of this case knows you are full of shit. The left is terrified, they are desperate and they know damn right well that this is going to be huge.

I have already posted literally fifty times debunking the lame arguments that the leftists on this board have posted, but now that more and more media outlets are finally covering this story I'll just copy and paste to prove you are purposely skewing and twisting the facts.

"Here’s what Fast and Furious is all about – and for the uninitiated, be prepared for a shock. In 2009, the US government instructed Arizona gun sellers illegally to sell arms to suspected criminals. Agents working for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were then ordered not to stop the sales but to allow the arms to “walk” across the border into the arms of Mexican drug-traffickers. According to the Oversight Committee’s report, “The purpose was to wait and watch, in hope that law enforcement could identify other members of a trafficking network and build a large, complex conspiracy case…. [The ATF] initially began using the new gun-walking tactics in one of its investigations to further the Department’s strategy. The case was soon renamed ‘Operation Fast and Furious.”

"It’s important to note that the Bush administration oversaw something similar to Fast and Furious. Called Operation Wide Receiver, it used the common tactic of “controlled delivery,” whereby agents would allow an illegal transaction to take place, closely follow the movements of the arms, and then descend on the culprits. But Fast and Furious is different because it was “uncontrolled delivery,” whereby the criminals were essentially allowed to drop off the map. Perhaps more importantly, Wide Receiver was conducted with the cooperation of the Mexican government. Fast and Furious was not."

So Obama’s operation is subtly different. But just as concerning is the heavy handed way that the administration has handled criticism. Obama says that the Oversight Committee has been hi-jacked by Republicans who would rather talk about politics than creating jobs (because Obama is o-so very good at generating those). But there has been Democratic criticism too, and the Prez’s determined defence of Holder will only encourage conspiracy thinking that the scandal has hidden depths. Executive privilege is usually associated with protecting information that passes through the Oval Office. What did the documents reveal about Obama’s association with the operation?

You are purposely lying--no I don't believe that, you haven't done any damn research on this beyond what Media Matters and MSNBC have told you. Of course you are uninformed and ignorant of facts, look where you depend on information for.

The size and scope is already known--thousands of assault weapons. The investigation is attempting to figure out when Holder knew about Fast and Furious, but he has lied in writing and in person about those facts. The documents that would have allowed the discovery of who was ultimately responsible, because as of today only whistleblowers have been punished, have been sealed under the guise of executive privilege , but rdead--

CONCENTRATE here, because this is important, Holder has said under oath that Obama had no knowledge of or involvement in Fast and Furious. For Obama to invoke executive privilege now means that that is another lie.

All you are doing by posting easily provable lies and falsehoods is further demonstrating the depths of the left's utter delusions and desperation.

Eeeyah. Ridiculous. Lets go with that. The Mexican government "asked" the United States to discontinue the program because they couldn't track the guns..and "poof"..it was gone. Forgive me if I have a little trouble with that meme. The Bush administration, which pulled the Anti-ballastic Missile treaty unilaterally, kept sending spy planes to China despite protests and attacked a nation which didn't attack us..again..by ourselves..and with protest suddenly started listening to Mexico. Got it.

Well heck..lets say the Bush administration had a special place in it's heart for Mexico and go with that. What happened to the guns they lost track of? Did the magically disappear? Were they "special" guns set to disintergrate when Bush gave the go ahead? Were they loaded with special "A-Team" ammo..that goes around the good guys and only hits bad guys? I dunno. I don't enough about guns to know if they can do that. Would you?

Well okay..off the gun topic for a moment. Since the Bush administration "stopped" the program..where there any memos put into place to keep it from starting up again? Directives? Sticky notes? Something? I'm just wondering why Kenneth F. Melson..who was head of the ATF around the time of Operation Wide Reciever..didn't pipe up and say something like "The Bush administration absolutely prohibits this sort of thing by directive, we tried it..it didn't work..because the Mexicans told us to stop".

So..off the top of my head..I've come up with two pretty important questions regarding why the Bush administration's people should be in on this.

And seeing that forensics hasn't established which exact gun killed Terry..it would seem prudent...no?

But lets get down to brass tacks here. What's the ultimate goal? Would it be like impeaching Clinton..who you guys said was hauled before Congress for lying..yet Bush lied several times..in Congress..most notably at the SOTU about aluminium tubing. But..um..no impeachment.

So would it be to prohibit the ATF from ever carrying out this sort of operation again? I've seen no legislation put up that does that..maybe you can point me to it?

Or is it..to embarrass the administration..or perhaps engage in a fishing expedition meant to undo a popular elections.

I'm going with that one.

As an American I believe I am entitled to the truth, no matter who it brings down with it. A federal agent died for absolutely nothing, probably a second death is involved.

It matters not to me what color skin any of them have. If there is nothing to hide, why are they hiding it?? Remember Holder admitted Bush had nothing to do with Fast & Furious or was he lying then, too.

No one is above the Law, even the first black President and AG, sorry if you think differently.

I agree with this, I also think Obama's new Immigration theory sucks.
These pricks in DC seem to do what ever they want now a days.
Shit, we drive 10 over and get caught its $100.00 and a bump in our insurance costs.

This will turn out like the GOP's Clinton witchhunt. Luckily Republicans are too stupid to learn from their past mistakes.

But that is not what is happening at all. Look at what Issa says he wants: Nothing from the time of the killing, nothing from those involved. He never did ask for those documents but Holder gave them to him anyway.

What Issa says he wants now are documents he does not have clearance for and some of which Holder offered to let him see in private but which Issa refused.
