Obamacare is folding like a cheap Taiwan suitcase

(Reuters) - Leading U.S. CEOs, angered by the Obama administration's challenge to certain "workplace wellness" programs, are threatening to side with anti-Obamacare forces unless the government backs off, according to people familiar with the matter.

Major U.S. corporations have broadly supported President Barack Obama's healthcare reform despite concerns over several of its elements, largely because it included provisions encouraging the wellness programs.

The programs aim to control healthcare costs by reducing smoking, obesity, hypertension and other risk factors that can lead to expensive illnesses. A bipartisan provision in the 2010 healthcare reform law allows employers to reward workers who participate and penalize those who don't.

But recent lawsuits filed by the administration's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), challenging the programs at Honeywell International and two smaller companies, have thrown the future of that part of Obamacare into doubt.

I wonder if an employer can order at fatass to lose weight or get fired?

This is just more BS from a POS program. The arm of the government knows no limits.

CVS Asking Employees to Disclose Weight Health Info Due to Obamacare

Will Obamacare Force You to Disclose Your Weight to Your Boss?
CVS and other firms are asking employees to take company physical or face a penalty

he Affordable Care Act allows employers to impose a penalty against workers who don’t participate in company wellness programs. In some cases, workers would have to pay more if they don’t meet certain health targets. One of the country’s largest pharmacy chains is already putting this clause into effect, according to the Huffington Post.

CVS Caremark, parent company of CVS, is asking workers to take part in a voluntary “wellness review,” paid for by CVS. The review will have a doctor determine their height, weight, body fat, blood pressure and other health indicators. CVS is also asking workers to give permission to the insurer to turn over that information to the firm that provides insurance benefits to the company. Workers who chose to opt out will have to pay an annual $600 penalty.

The company’s policy is “a common practice,” said Michael DeAngelis, a CVS spokesman in a statement to The Huffington Post. He added “our benefits program is evolving to help our colleagues take more responsibility for improving their health and managing health-associated costs.”

According to a survey from the National Business Group on Health, nearly 80 percent of employers offered a health assessment in 2011.

With health care costs cited as one of the biggest concerns among business owners, especially in the face of President Obama’s health care reform law taking effect in 2014, some worry that employers will be desperate to get rid of workers who have costly health conditions.

this is like the Union whining, the CEOs are just not getting everything they thought they would get.

Large and small corporations and buisnesses are dropping people like crazy throwing them on Obamacare. Right now mostly the retired people who were promised these benefits.

Corporations are both saving a bundle and making a bundle due to Obamacare. I read where there were 77 new insurance providers since Obamacare. Do you think that is so because he didn't take care of the insurance companies? Once again the direct opposite happens from the liberal stated intent.

If the corporations and executives of companies covered by ACA as well as those of the new health insurance companies are doing well (and they are, by the article), then geaux and freewill are simply misrepresenting reality.

Nothing here, folks.

Not fired, but in my company if you don't participate in the wellness program the only insurance available is the high deductible plan.

I have this great idea! Let's create a bureaucratic Soviet style health system!

What could possibly go wrong?

That's because the government needs to stick with their day jobs. You know, controlling the skies, building roads and missiles and stuff like that.

How dare you tell Big Business what it can and can not do in insuring and assuring their employees' health.

Every first world country in the world have a public health program and policies....

Only the Hard Right would dessert a public health system... It is bad for business in the medium to long term... But that is the Hard Right for you, all short term at the expense at the medium to long term... Look at their Climate Change, Business Regulation policies...

Look at Kansas under Brownback... That is what the Hard Right wanted and look at the Results...
California vs. Kansas Harlan Green

It is simple, the Hard Right policies are a disaster...

Socialists are all about controlling your life.....putting you on their socialized medical care plan (long term plan for Obama) is their way to telling you to eat veggies, quit drinking, quit smoking, lose weight, etc or not be covered for medical care.

It is amazing liberals that put them in charge are typically your drug addicts, smokers, drunks, sexual deviants, etc....that would be targeted by this "healthy lifestyle."

So you want to disband all public health programs... Medicare is socialized healthcare... I suggest you try and run for election on disbanding that if you don't like socialized healthcare...

Good Luck.
