The difference in philosophy was simple. Liberals borrow money to build infrastructure. Conservatives borrow money to pay this months bills., What used to be an insult is actually a responsible characteristic.

It's said, liberals are tax and spenders. Which means the spending is paid for.
Conservatives want to cut taxes, yet still spend more, so they have to borrow. So their spending isn't paid for. So they say to cover their debt. That deficits don't matter.

Here is the deal. You give no crumbs back to the peasant workers. You do give crumbs to the privileged peasant workers and your favorite groups. That 15% social security/medicare tax the boomers paid into the general fund is reducing mighty fast as they retire. I remember old Claude Pepper and Tip O'Neill bragging in the 1980's how the massive then tax increases on social security/medicare was good until the mid 2070's. Not just getting rid of the tax cuts, but the other budget cuts and tax increases needed to start paying down the Debt. Otherwise, Medicare is bankrupt in 2026, SS is bankrupt in 2037, and the interest on the Debt consumes ALL discretionary spending.
