Own up to what? It's the truth. If given the chance I would take great pleasure in rearranging that guy's face. It has nothing to do with my politics and it has everything to do with useless, nutbag political pundits who are agenda driven, and willing to lie or massively distort the truth to push that agenda. I'd do the same to Olberdouche, or a guy like Hannity, or Limbaugh, or Michael Moore.

You wanna call me a Nazi for that, have at it. I'll sleep just fine tonight.

I think it would have made more sense for Jindal to call Obama instead of going back to his office and issuing a press release.

But hey, that's just what I would have done.

I don't know about this particular situation, but I think there's more than just a little political grandstanding being done by Jindahl. He is, after all, considered to be a top tier presidential contender for 2012 and this latest disaster is a chance to show how he can handle it better than Bush handled Katrina and better than Obama is handling the oil spill.

From your link:

So they did a safety check and the barges are back sucking up oil.

Someone put Frank back in his cage.
The point is, what the fuck are they doing shutting them down in the first place for an entire day? Safety Inspections???? come on! I don't buy that for a split second. The way this is going on, I would believe that they'd still be shut down if Jindal wasn't so good at pitching a tirade at them because the feds have figured nobody's going to question their 'wisdom' during this crisis.

You got these large barges (reminds me of Large Marge lol) sucking up a bunch of oil which is flammable and combustible ... so the Coast Guard made sure they were up to snuff safety wise. Heaven forbid there was an explosion on one of those ships and they didn't have any gear to deal with it ... if there were I guarandamntee that a bunch of people on this board would screaming that they should have made sure that they were prepared to deal with such a thing. And could you imagine if it did happen and it turned out the Coast Guard let them operate without safey gear? So they did an inspection and they are rolling again. I mean, if you want to subscribe to Frank's theory knock yourself out but it holds about as much water as a strainer.

I can't imagine what a Keystone Kop operation the whole thing would be if all safety protocol was ignored. They would, as someone suggested, be pushing people overboard. Also, a reminder that Thad Allen has said many times that Bobby Jindal can call him personally any time he wants. But Jindal would rather run his mouth to reporters.

A leader would go to the person in charge if he had a valid complaint.

Right, because calling Obama would do nothing. He has shown in the past, unless the camera and spotlight are on him. Jindal got the boats back by doing what he thought would work best.

Why did the barges go back to the pier? Why didn't they just check on them in situ? If there were deficiencies in the number of fire extinguishers, they could have brought them over on the same ship. Same for life jackets.

It sounds like the officials brought them in, had them tied up at the dock, and then went home.

This whole crisis is because BP didn't follow safety and environmental regs, and they were let off with a nagging. Clearly these rules need to be enforced. But you wonder if something else isn't going on here. It does seem 0bama is more interested in maintaining the crisis than in the solution to it.

It took 50 days for the Dutch skimmers to arrive, even thought the could have been airlifted on the first day, and they capacity is greater than the worst estimates of the spill rate.

So while, especially here, I am am all in favor of safety reg compliance, I got to wonder if this is really what is going on.

Like what? Do you honestly believe there's a conspiracy to NOT cap the well and to NOT attempt to soak up all the oil spilling to push through an energy agenda? As unpopular as that is, which will involve months of congressional haggling, why on earth would Obama risk even more political capital by intentionally making sure the incident has no good results? He's already on the hot seat for personally not making sure the BP license was up to safety code, which you know damned well Republicans will continue to hammer him on even after the incident is history.

The way I see it, initially the bitching was that the government agencies weren't involved AT ALL, then not enough, and now the bitching has turned to TOO MUCH. Well this is what you get when every bureaucracy gets involved, per the demands of the American people: They start tripping all over themselves.

Coast Guard Orders Barges to Stop
...

How is Obama going to get Cap-and-Trade and his new energy policy passed if the oil gets cleaned up too fast?

Obama could have taken the opportunity during his brief comments on energy's future during his Tuesday night speech, but he didn't, which sent a strong signal that even HE knows that cap and trade is dead. So stop yammering about it, people.

Looks like Bobby Jindal is a big fat liar.

On Thursday night, the Incident Commander in Houma, Roger Laferriere, decided with the captain of the port in New Orleans to inspect the barges when they realized the ships did not have a certificate of inspection to demonstrate safety equipment on board. Thursday morning, the ships were inspected and grounded because they did not have the proper fire-fighting and life-saving equipment. There were also concerns about the stability of the barges. During the day Thursday, the problems were fixed, and the barges are back out on the water today.

I want to hear his tape of his "call to the White House".

No, no, no, Ravi. This is all part of some evil plot and Gary Coleman is overseeing it all. You see, he didn't die, he was really kidnapped by the Obama Administration .. they now dress him up in the same clothes at Barack and call him Mini-POTUS.
 Did they paint a Hitler 'stash on him? Oh, :eusa_pray:

Coast Guard Orders Barges to Stop

So why stop now?

"The Coast Guard came and shut them down," Jindal said. "You got men on the barges in the oil, and they have been told by the Coast Guard, 'Cease and desist. Stop sucking up that oil.'"

A Coast Guard representative told ABC News today that it shares the same goal as the governor.

"We are all in this together. The enemy is the oil," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Dan Lauer.

But the Coast Guard ordered the stoppage because of reasons that Jindal found frustrating. The Coast Guard needed to confirm that there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board, and then it had trouble contacting the people who built the barges.

these fucking people are behaving in a criminally inept way. unbelievable.

i'm starting to agree that bush handled katrina better, and the way bush handled katrina was fucking pitiful.

But of course. Even if he had miraculously stopped the oil spill, you would be off on some other tangent over what Obama did or did not do to your personal liking. The pure hatred of the man expressed here and elsewhere is par for the course.

how does the fact that Glen Beck said x, y or z change the veracity of what was said? If Ethel Mertz said it, does that make it true? This argument always bugs me.

Now, given the veracity level of Zona, Ravi and 0bama, if they said it was raining, I wouldn't bother with an umbrella until I went outdoors on my own first. The veracity of these guys does not change the weather, but the credibility of the their statements.

glennbeck could tell me the sky is blue and my response would be to deck him in his fat, bloated head then say, "fuck you it's sky blue."

This is Portland. The Sky is Grey. and usually, but not always, it rains.

So True or False does not matter to you. You just want to do violence to people you find annoying.

At fires you usually see a line of cops keeping good Samaritans at a safe distance, so the fireman can get the job done without getting hurt.

True or false is the criterion. I don't like Ravi, who I think is a jerk ass. But this time the jerk ass is right. Ah, the agony of agreeing with Ravi. How will I ever recover.

But right is right, and stupid is stupid. Argue the logic, not the person.

Just call the seecrit librul hotline to the White House and make the suggestion... they'll put Bobby Jindal on hold and get right on it!

You would have a point... except it happened to all the ships at the same time. That tells me this is not just 'inspecting'. It would have been one at a time, they stop, get inspected, move on, lather rinse repeat. You would have had only 1 or two off line at a time. That's why it's suspicious.

If there is a possible safety issue on the barges and they plan on inspecting them all it only makes sense to stop them all at once. You don't let unchecked ships continue to work if there is a suspected problem just because they are in line to get checked. Yes, it's slow but it's the gov't. Be suspicious all you want but I find it pretty silly to think there was some nefarious plot behind it.
Well, it's good you still have faith in the competence of government, but I find it highly misplaced.

One, you wouldn't have to shut down all barges at the same time. You have to get the inspectors out in boats to do the job. This is not a synchronized event and can have variances of many hours that being in compliance or not will not make a difference in the form of lifejackets or fire extinguishers. This is a joke.

Two, they called the ships to return to PORT and then let them sit. This is inconcievble. Most USCG inspections can and more regularly do occur at sea, not at port.

Three, the timing of this is ludicrous. As Glenn Beck just pointed out, you don't get an OSHA inspector to ground zero shutting down firemen trying to save people while the towers are burning just because their flashlight batteries are low or they don't have the latest regulation gear so they are prevented from committing 'unsafe rescues' of people who would die without immedeate action. You do the goddamn job THEN after it is over you look at what could have been done better.

No, this was not a simple safety inspection. This was at BEST government incompetence which should cost more than a few bureaucrats and officers their position an commission. At worst, it is a criminal act to block a state's right to protect it's territory and citizens because it wants to make political hay on the disaster. If that's the case, I want a firing squad on line for those who did this, as well as for the BP executives who overrode safe operating parameters because they wanted to save a few million dollars. These people need to very well be made examples for this ONCE THE DISASTER IS OVER.

People need to get their priorities straight.

Of course it's a given that Glenn Beck's comparison means squat. The difference between a raging building fire and the raging oil spill is that WHAT IF one of the other barges didn't have safety precautions, blew up, and more lives were lost? With all the, er, RAGING criticisms, that would be just added to the, er, existing fire. The Coast Guard taking precautions by covering their asses is therefore understandable. If a barge blew up because it didn't have proper safety equipment on board, ol' Glenn Beck's own hair would be on fire over it possibly causing the entire Fox newsroom to melt down.

Well...one has to consider this. If those barges don't meet Office of Marine Inspection CFR requirements including lifejackets, fire extinguishers AND properly certified tankerman PIC/DL on board then if an accident happened the government would be liable AGAIN!!!!!
Smart move by the USCG.

Ravi, did you read this?

"The governor said he didn't have the authority to overrule the Coast Guard's decision, though he said he tried to reach the White House to raise his concerns.

It seems the best way of handling a potential problem like this would be to send a party on board to check those possible deficiences rather than hold up vital operations, if those operations were indeed seen as being vital.

It appears that this whole affair is being treated as "business as usual", no one is really willing to think outside the box for fear of getting this asses burned.
I don't buy it. I don't believe that if Jindal called up and said that he needed to speak to the president on an urgent matter that he would not have been put through.

Jindal's first contact is Thad Allen, so why would he call the president directly when the president would have had to put him on hold and check with Thad Allen?

Agreed.

Now tell that to the "glennbeck ZOMG OBAMA IS PURPOSELY TRYING TO DESTROY THE WORLD" crowd.

You were doing fine until you mentioned glennbeck. I stopped reading there. You're opinion makes sense now.
Awesome! Your brain has an off button! All I have to do is say "Glenn Beck" and you go into reboot! How sweet is that?

Idiot. thanks for proving my suspicion you P-BO worshipers won't see anything funky in this because all we have to say is "GLENN BECK" and your critical thinking functions shut down.

This is why you have no credibility. Not even a broken clock is right 2 times a day. At least from your point of view that Beck is a broken clock when he's been most certainly right on almost everything he's pointed out since 2008. But you go on thinking that.

GLENN BECK! see? that's amazing! I can actually sense your eyes rolling back in your head as shutdown starts.

Glenn Beck is nothing but a troublemaker, creating problems where none exist. Since 2008.

Not only that, firefighters now have state-of-the-art equipment after tens of millions were doled out by DHS after 911.

I am after you because you defended a lie. Rush never said what Rdean quoted him as saying. Your position seems to be that since Rush is a total Douche in your estimation, any lie about him is valid to prove his douchiness to others. "Rushbo delendo est" no matter what. The higher truth justifies any lie.

Now, you want argue you don't like Rush, that is a matter of personal opinion and we can and will debate that all day and all night until the man has his last triple cheeseburger and extra large shake. But a false statement about Ravi, PI, or Rush is still false, no matter what your opinion of the person at the receiving end.
