A typical classroom does not cost taxpayers $400,000. The cost is around $325,000. The teacher's salary is not the only salary necessary to cover a child's education. There are bus drivers, secretaries, special ed teachers, counselors, maintenance workers, and administrative workers, all whom are necessary to keep the school running efficiently. Secondly, there are costs for rent on the building itself, and there are also costs associated with extracurricular activities. Intelligent people understand that it's not "liberal bureaucracy wasting $350,000 per classroom; it's the cost of running a school.

Had you tried to make an argument that we are wasting money in certain areas, maybe you would have had an argument. Instead you are trying to convince us that we should be able to teach a group of 25 kids for $50,000 per year. Wake up for God's sake.

Hoover was no liberal. He did absolutely nothing after the crash other than to allow things to take their course. Had he pushed for strong government intervention, things would never have gotten as bad as they did. By the time FDR was elected, Hoover had allowed the US economy to be buried. From your point of view, we have never had a conservative president, because from my pov, Ronald Reagan was only a mild conservative. Hoover could have helped turn things around if he had started pumping money into the system rather than just allow the "market" to take its course. Had he started FDR's agenda, the Depression would not have been nearly as bad as it was. As for whom it was that was responsible for the Depression and market crash of 1929, it was the complete lack of regulations of the banking industry. As the economy was booming, so many people were getting rich in the stock market. Many people thought the ride would never end, so they borrowed as much money as they could, without any collateral as the banks would have it, and used that money to buy stocks. As more and more people purchased stocks, it drove the prices so high that the market was completely overvalued, all because of borrowed money. Then it all came crashing down. Here was the big problem; all that money that had been borrowed needed to be paid back, but nobody could pay it back. All was lost. Many who had invested borrowed money ended up taking their lives because they lost everything plus some. Over 23,000 committed suicide the year following the stock market crash which is a much higher percentage of the population than in any other year in our history that is recorded.
