Tennessee drag ban is unconstitutional, federal judge rules

People concerned with the welfare of children have posted MANY pics and videos of Drag queens dressed inappropriately, wearing long penile pseudo-tails in front of them while encouraging children to stroke them, dry humping each other on stage and any of a number of behaviors clearly unsuitable for children.

The leftists here SUPPORT that and want to give the drag queens carte blanche to engage in these and other activities with children.

My only question is whether our resident leftists support the kiddie drag shows despite this behavior or because of it?
You lie while pretending to represent a group of people, you suck.

Tennessee drag ban is unconstitutional, federal judge rules

A federal judge struck down a Tennessee law that banned drag shows in public or where children could watch them, writing that the unconstitutional measure was passed “for the impermissible purpose of chilling constitutionally-protected speech.”

In his ruling issued Friday, U.S. District Judge Thomas L. Parker wrote that the law violates First Amendment freedom of speech protections and was “unconstitutionally vague and substantially overbroad.”

The law, which Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed in March, would have criminalized “adult cabaret entertainment,” punishing first-time offenders with misdemeanors. Repeat offenders could face felony charges and prison sentences of up to six years if convicted.

The bill was one of at least 26 introduced across the nation this year taking aim at drag events. This sudden rush to regulate and ban drag shows, largely by arguing that the performances are harmful to minors, is part of the wider conservative backlash to expanded LGBTQ rights. On Friday, Texas became the largest state to ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors.

if that's the case in some instances, then guess what???? there should be REGULATIONS that would REGULATE.

bullshit.

i support parents rights .... why is it all about parental rights when it comes to books in libraries or part of a school curriculem - but not about drag shows? if a parent wants to take a child to a movie that may not be suitable because of violence, blood & gore, or has sex scenes ... or to a gun show ... or to a rw nutter rally where the candidate boasts about violence against 'the other side' ....

why are there no uproars & daily TV rants about that?
When anybody expresses any concerns over the overt sexualization of children, all you useless proles ever do is indulge in false equivalences by saying they want to outlaw Mrs. Doubtfire or Bosom Buddies.

Thank you for the explanation, White 6. This one wasn't in the drop down of similar threads when I created it. Just a thread about the law being paused.
No problem.
For the record, being a Tennessean. I am disappointed in the judge's ruling. Whether the legislation was craftily written or not, it's intent was to keep children from lewd performances where women, fake women, impersonators are disrobing or doing sexually suggestive acts in front of children. I think the speaker is hoping the AG will appeal. I am hoping the law will be re-written in such a way to work as intended. I have nothing against the fund-raising comical drag shows of old, but actually stripping and doing lewd performances in front of children is indeed wrong.

Ban them from reading the Bible, with all that filth and incest and adultery and smiting.

seems utah got the hint that it's a slippery slope & be careful what one wishes for.

Utah district bans Bible in elementary and middle schools ‘due to vulgarity or violence’

SALT LAKE CITY The Good Book is being treated like a bad book in Utah after a parent frustrated by efforts to ban materials from schools convinced a suburban district that some Bible verses were too vulgar or violent for younger children. And the Book of Mormon could be next.

The 72,000-student Davis School District north of Salt Lake City removed the Bible from its elementary and middle schools while keeping it in high schools after a committee reviewed the scripture in response to a parental complaint. The district has removed other titles, including Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and John Green’s “Looking for Alaska,” following a 2022 state law requiring districts to include parents in decisions over what constitutes “sensitive material.”

On Friday, a complaint was submitted about the signature scripture of the predominant faith in Utah, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely known as the Mormon church. District spokesperson Chris Williams confirmed that someone filed a review request for the Book of Mormon but would not say what reasons were listed. Citing a school board privacy policy, he also would not say whether it was from the same person who complained about the Bible.

Representatives for the church declined to comment on the challenge. Members of the faith also read the Bible. Williams said the district doesn’t differentiate between requests to review books and doesn't consider whether complaints may be submitted as satire. The reviews are handled by a committee made up of teachers, parents and administrators in the largely conservative community.

The committee published its decision about the Bible in an online database of review requests and did not elaborate on its reasoning or which passages it found overly violent or vulgar.

The decision comes as conservative parent activists, including state-based chapters of the group Parents United, descend on school boards and statehouses throughout the United States, sowing alarm about how sex and violence are talked about in schools. Because of the district's privacy policy, it’s unknown who made the request for the Bible to be banned from Davis schools or if they are affiliated with any larger group.

Hmm..I find it hard the cheer for any book being banned..although schools do need to be age-appropriate. I guess the issue is, for some people, that people who have a different cultural perspective, are ban-worthy for that reason alone...banning Sherman Alexie is just stupid---he does touch on some sensitive topics of race and cultural alienation--but is that not what school is for? To challenge and excite young minds into thinking?

BTW..banning the Bible is absurd, and they can keep the Book of Mormon right next to the Koran.
In the library..NOT in the classroom~

I was pretty sure that Tenn. jumped the shark on this one. The wording too vague, and the intent too obvious. Of note, the Judge was appointed by Trump~

So you will allow them to give lap dances to your children/grand children? Will you film it for maximum pleasure?

Drag queens are mental and desire to be around children.. a disturbing situation

The only ones that are mentally ill are you Trump trash. Drag queens date back to the 1600s in England and back to the early days of vaudeville.
