Should we try to stop talking about racism for about 4 months and see what happens? We could prove Morgan Freeman wrong. Watch the video then read my comments below.

Here is how it will work. We will all stop talking about racism for 4 months. During that four months, without talking about it, write down all instances of racism that you encounter. Come back and share all the instances of racism you encountered during the 4 month time period that you didn’t talk about it. Then we will assess the outcomes and see if Morgan Freeman was right or wrong.

Give me one example where stopping all conversation on any problem in society made it go away OP.

You plan fails to recognize that racism isn’t just limited to the members of this forum. Just because we stop talking about it here, isn’t going to influence someone who doesn’t discuss racism here. So there is no reason to expect that the racism we encounter beyond this message board would be effected.

We can still make lists about the racism that we encounter.

Also, the idea that “talking about it works much better” is baloney to. That statement lacks context. Who’s doing the talking and what are they saying about it? If you are talking to someone who claims you are racist because you are white, then no that doesn’t work better. It works better (like Morgan said) when we stop defining ourselves and others by race.

Back when I was a kid, the people who‘s whole identity revolved around their race, and believed society needed to change because of their race, were white nationalists. Today, higher learning is teaching those same ideas everyone in college.

Too much work and not practical. I need to be on guard when around systemic criminal blacks. Never relax when around blacks. I've lived with blacks for 35 years near So. L.A. Blacks are as racist as they come.

No. And Morgan Freeman is neiither a psycholoogist or sociologist. He said something people like you want to hear and you really think it's the solution. Fixing damage caused by racist public policy is the answer. Not talking about race for 4 months won't fix 247 years of damage created by laws.

The Racial Wealth Gap: Why Policy Matters

Public policies can either fuel or ease racial disparities in wealth. This report marks the first-ever systematic analysis of the impact of different policies on the racial wealth gap.

Main Findings

  • The U.S. racial wealth gap is substantial and is driven by public policy decisions.
  • Eliminating disparities in homeownership rates and returns would substantially reduce the racial wealth gap.
  • If public policy successfully eliminated racial disparities in homeownership rates, so that Blacks and Latinos were as likely as white households to own their homes, median Black wealth would grow $32,113 and the wealth gap between Black and white households would shrink 31 percent. Median Latino wealth would grow $29,213 and the wealth gap with white households would shrink 28 percent.
  • If public policy successfully equalized the return on homeownership, so that Blacks and Latinos saw the same financial gains as whites as a result of being homeowners, median Black wealth would grow $17,113 and the wealth gap between Black and white households would shrink 16 percent. Median Latino wealth would grow $41,652 and the wealth gap with white households would shrink 41 percent.
  • If public policy successfully eliminated racial disparities in college graduation rates, median Black wealth would grow $1,313 and the wealth gap between Black and white households would shrink 1 percent. Median Latino wealth would grow $3,528 and the wealth gap with white households would shrink 3 percent.
  • If public policy successfully equalized the return to college graduation, median Black wealth would grow $10,786 and the wealth gap between Black and white households would shrink 10 percent. Median Latino wealth would grow $5,878 and the wealth gap with white households would shrink 6 percent.
  • Eliminating disparities in income—and even more so, the wealth return on income—would substantially reduce the racial wealth gap.
  • If public policy successfully eliminated racial disparities in income, median Black wealth would grow $11,488 and the wealth gap between Black and white households would shrink 11 percent. Median Latino wealth would grow $8,765 and the wealth gap with white households would shrink 9 percent.
  • If public policy successfully equalized the return to income, so that each additional dollar of income going to Black and Latino households was converted to wealth at the same rate as white households, median Black wealth would grow $44,963 and median Latino wealth would grow $51,552. This would shrink the wealth gap with white households by 43 and 50 percent respectively.

Morgan Freeman didn't tell you this, because Mmorgan Freeman doesn't know this. Simple attempts to solve problems only make problems worse. None of these things shown here will cease if we just stopped talking about race.

It’s worth a try. It’s just an experiment. We take 4 months off talking about racism. If any of those things you mentioned on the list happen to you during the 4 months of your choice to stop talking about it, then document it. Keep a full record of all racist things that happen. Not just to you but if you see it at all. If any of those things happen while you are not talking about racism then you can easily prove Morgan Freeman wrong.

What could we lose by trying this method?

How do you not see how that is going to end? Obviously, everything racist happens to IM2 all of the time. His list would be legion and chronicle his every thought.

Bravo! The "Conversation about Race" always begins with "Ok first admit you are a Racist and that your race oppresses me".

It is impossible to stop talking about "racism," for too many Caucasian and non-Caucasian people depend on "racism" talk in order to make their living.

If IM2 had to stop talking about race, well this:
