Russell Wilson Benched

Payton is overrated as a coach. He has a personal grudge against Wilson for whatever reason and wanted to replace him even before he took the job.

Wilson isn’t a “washed up old guy.” They’ve already committed to him for signing him to a 5 year extension to his existing contract.

Payton has completely screwed the pooch in the way he’s handled this situation.
How many teams have you coached to a SB again?

None. What does that have to do with anything? What a stupid comment.

How many NFL games have you played? How many TD passes have you thrown? Could you even take a snap and hand off the ball? What makes you an authority?

That 2 coaches who have, have assessed that RW isnt worth the money. So your assessment of his value doesnt mean shit comparatively.

The Broncos organization is at fault for signing him to such a big contract. Carroll realized that Wilson had regressed.

For sure. It made no sense for them to sign that extension with 2 years left on the existing one. But that was the mistake of the former owners. Not surprising that the current owners aren't married to it.

He’s playing well for a poorly coached mediocre team.
Yeah it's the coaching. It's not the QB who was let go by the team that drafted him that he won 1 SB with and took to 2. And all analysis of his play is that he's not very good anymore. That's not the problem, I promise.

Seattle didn’t release Wilson. They knew that’s he was going to need huge contract which would make it impossible for them to make the upgrades they needed, so they negotiated a blockbuster trade with a team dumb enough to pay that kind of money.

There’s no question that Payton has done a poor job coaching his team. If he doesn’t pull his out of his fourth point of contact, he won’t last long in Denver.

It wasn’t so much that Wilson regressed, it was more of an erosion of the relationship Carroll had with Wilson. Wilson was sounding off about the possibility of him playing elsewhere for two seasons. He was isolating from his teammates and it was harming team chemistry.

At that time trading him was the best move for both. It hasn’t worked out well for Wilson.

Yeah because lots of teams are shopping their SB winning QB who still has it..... Oh wait....

Yeah because Russ wanted to be an MVP, and to "cook" Carroll knew he wasn't good enough to do that and would inevitably become a cancer in the locker room. Seriously, how many former Seahawk players who played with Wilson, won a SB with him have since come out and trashed him? Seattle has more wins in the last 2 years with Geno Smith and Drew Lock at QB than they did the last year Wilson was there. That team isn't significantly different this year from 2021. Geno Smith had as many yds last year passing as Wilson ever had in his career.

Wilson’s actions and attitude burnt his bridges in Seattle. It had nothing to do with supposed deteriorating skills.

Geno Smith played well last season, but he’s not as physically skilled as Wilson. Smith’s performance this year has been up and down. When he’s good, he’s very good. When he’s bad, he’s very bad. Generally he’s both good and bad in the same game.

Wilson’s former Super Bowl era teammates aren’t “trashing” him, but they aren’t supporting him zealously. Sherman, Lynch and Doug Baldwin have a lot of good things to say about him. Mostly they think Carroll coddled him too much.
