The Denver Broncos are benching Russell Wilson for the last two games of the season.

Wilson went from a probable hall of famer to a guy who’s getting benched for a mediocre back up. He’s being made the scape goat for a bad team.

I don’t know how Wilson can remain with the Broncos now.

He's kind of like Matt Ryan. He makes some good throws...but he doesn't make THE throw.

cam jordan says that ryan will receive a special mention in his hall of fame speech. "matty ice" did seem to spend a lot of time flat on the superdome floor.

This will go down as the worst trade in NFL history. Russ doesn't even want to play anymore, he has got his money, and seems like he wants to do something else with his life.

Next year, the Broncos will have $85 million in dead money on their cap, gave up two first rounders, two second rounders, a servicable QB in Drew Lock, a good TE in Noah Fant.

The Broncos mortgaged the future of the franchise for the next 2 years in order to acquire him.

Wilson is guaranteed $39 million next year whether he stays with the team or not, but he also has an additional $37 million that would become guaranteed if he cannot pass a physical in March.
If he is injured in the remaining two games of the season, it would likely trigger that guarantee.

The Broncos signed him to a lucrative contract but Denver is devoid of talent.

that could explain the benching.

bronco fans : didn't teddy bridgewater join the broncos . he was very good when not injured.

Wilson is being made a scapegoat for the team's failures.
Most people would agree with that to include Wilson himself. That’s why it will not be possible for the Broncos to keep him now.

The team has lost trust in him and he no longer trusts his team and coaches.

This problem was created by the front office. They chose to pay Wilson an exhorbitant salary instead of improving the team.

McAfee just showed a text that said Wilson was approached and told if he did not waive the injury designation on his contract that he would be benched, and Wilson refused to do so. He is done in the NFL, and has played that way since he arrived in Denver.

Denver is a bad organization.

I believe that it does. The Broncos conveyed two distinct messages through this action:

1. "Russell, You will not be the starter in 2024"

2. "We are going to protect what we can as far as our financial interest".

The only question remaining is whether Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson was the biggest mistake in NFL history.

Herschel Walker is off the hook.

That’s a big part of it, but it’s pretty clear that the current coaching staff and Wilson are not a good fit.

Sean Peyton was chewing out Russell Wilson on the sidelines in front of the team and a national TV audience after inexplicably stupid coaching decisions. Instead of looking like a puppy which just caught peeing on the carpet, Wilson should have barked back at Peyton.

They thought he was the improvement they needed. He might have been if they had used him in the right way.

I’ll bet Wilson appreciates Pete Carroll a whole lot more now than he did two years ago.
