Now that the field is clear and Romney is the nominee let's take a look at his proposals on fixing the economy......

Romney says he wants to put the nation on a path to a balanced budget while also cutting an array of taxes, building up the Navy and Air Force and adding 100,000 active-duty military personnel.

Sound familiar?????

I have three major ways that we can get ourselves to a balanced budget,” he told voters this month in Warwick, R.I. “Number one is to eliminate some programs. Stop, eliminate them. Not just slow down their rate of growth. But look at programs and say, ‘Too many, too big, too expensive, too ineffective, get rid of it.’

Where have we heard that before????

Romney has shown little willingness to cut popular programs so far. He joined President Barack Obama, and bucked some House Republicans, by backing an extension of low college loan rates for middle-income students, a $6 billion government cost.

He missed a perfect opportunity.

“You campaign in fiction, and govern in fact,” said Tom Davis, a former congressman who headed the Republicans’ House campaign committee from 1998 to 2002.

You don't often hear the hard truth from the GOP.

Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-Ohio, said Romney’s proposals “are aspirations” more than firm promises.

Another GOP truth teller!!

Romney calls for a host of tax cuts. But independent analysts say they will worsen the deficit unless offset by deep and politically unpopular spending cuts.

More tax cuts without offering a way to pay for them. Good idea!!!! That will sure fix the deficit.

Romney would keep the Bush-era tax cuts, and further reduce all marginal income tax rates by 20 percent. He says he would lower the corporate tax rate, eliminate the estate tax, push a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution and make $500 billion in unspecified domestic discretionary spending cuts in 2016.

Uh-huh. And if you believe he can do all that and still balance the budget........

Whether these campaign ideas are called proposals, aspirations or promises, they are easier to talk about than to achieve.

No shit......

Where have we heard "voodoo economics" before? From George HW Bush running against Reagan, who promised exactly what Romney is promising.
And the result? One of the longest peace time expansions of teh economy post war, defeat of the Soviet Union which allowed Clinton to cut the military and come closer to a balanced budget.
Yeah, if Mitt is promising that I'll vote for him for sure.

Supply side economics is a gimmick to redistribute wealth to the top 1%. We've tried it several times, and the result is always the same. It's class warfare, waged through propaganda. There's still many stupid people out there. I just hope there's less of them in November.

robmoney is smarter and better looking than McCain.

He still backs historically failed ideas

And it's worked every time.
It's a failure for libs because it refutes teh notion we can tax and subsidize people into prosperity.

Hows that Corzine Stimulus doing?

Only downgraded once!

Woot!

Romney bailed out the Olympics but he spent more taxpayer money than all the US Olympics put together. More than twice the previous Olympics. This is his "number one" achievement.

Why won't these right wingers explain this? This is supposed to be the "evidence" of his economic abilities. Sarah Palin is better than Mitt Romney.

I've been telling you people this for months.

This is an exact re-enactment of the Reagan disaster.

Cut taxes, increase military spending, and then talk a good game about cutting something out of the rest of the government that is supposed to

1. erase the current deficit

2. pay for the tax cuts

3. pay for the increased military spending.

The simplest reason this plan is GUARANTEED TO FAIL?

It's politically impossible to do. Period. It's a partisan Republican plan that puts the bulk of the sacrifice on Democratic constituencies and lets GOP constituencies off the hook. But, worse than that, it's a plan that would have to go after spending that has plenty of bi-partisan support.

You cannot do anything that big with only one party behind it unless you were to get a super duper duper GOP majority,

which will never happen.

Yes, it's voodoo.

What are your credentials in Economics??? Besides being an internet blowhard? :eusa_whistle:

Romney has a Harvard MBA and made himself a millionaire.....what about you?

I have a BA in Economics and a MBA, so I'll play....I also own a hog, unlike your tricycle.

Reagan raised taxes every year after listening to Lafter. Bush's budgets went deeper and deeper into debt every year that he did nothing. It's never worked. You're a rube.

No matter how many times in history these idiot ideas fail they just keep backing them

Let's all hope that this is another Reagan "disaster". Lord knows we need one to overcome the obama catastrophe.
