Republicans are doing their jobs, are democrats?

I've become accustomed to your completely pointless off topic posts. At least other dems are arguing what they consider valid points. You might as well goto chuckie cheese with your mentality. You'd fit in better.

Off topic?

To me, the most important group in the entire United States is the "middle class". These people are the backbone of the country. During his recent speech, when John Boehner said, "We need to lower taxes and broaden the tax base to bring in more revenue", what do you think he was talking about? How do you "lower the taxes" but "broaden" the base.

Clearly, he was talking about moving even more taxes to the middle class. It's not enough that Republicans want to slash education. And they do, that can't be denied. The Ryan plan, now the Republican Plan wants to cut Medicare. That can't be denied. Republicans have always hated Social Security. That can't be denied.

The Republican part of the Middle Class votes against their own self interests until they get so severely dick slapped, self preservation causes them to rebel. Ask yourself the question, "All the cuts to education, school lunches, destroying unions, and so on. Is the money being used to balance the budget of the different states? Or is it being used for even more tax cuts?"

Some schools will open in the fall with one teacher and over 50 students. Good luck on getting an education.

I love this post from Rickshriener:

Please Do The Math:
Reagan inherited $908 bil. in debt growing to $2.6 tril. Up:+186%.
Bush I inherited $2.6 tril. in debt growing to $4.2 tril. Up:+62%.
Clinton inherited $4.2 tril. in debt growing to $5.7 tril. Up:+36%.
Bush II inherited $5.7 tril. in debt growing to $10.6 tril. Up:+86%
.Obama inherited $10.6 tril. in debt that is now up to $13 tril. Up: +23%."

Nice to see your able to contribute. Now we have something to discuss.

First of all the gop wants to turn the entitlements over to the states who can better distribute them without all the fraud and waste. Ryans plan doesn't impact current seniors or those close to retiring.

Secondly everyone cries about balancing the budget on the backs of the middle class and poor. Well the wealthy pay the lions share of our govts revenue while the poor put the biggest drain on revenue. This isn't a robin hood movie where you can continually rape the rich at the expence of the poor and lazy. Our country will fail if we continue on this path. The bottom rungs of this ladder need to contribute. They get free benefits costing us billions while offering nothing in return. And by the way I've employed many of these societial leeches. I've earned my way, its time fore everyone else to do the same. And this economy is hurting me possibly more than a lot of you cause I own a remodeling company. Yet I'm not demanding more, I'm demanding uncle Sam get the hell out of my way. I was born a free American not a ward of the govt.

Public unions are the cause of our educational decline. They take more and more every year while offering less and less in results. It's about time our governors stood up to these bullies and said no more.

many states do not have public unions.

many states do not have public unions.

Any links to results of unionized vs non as far as student success goes? That would be interesting I think.

Even Grover Norquist thinks it's OK to let Bush's tax cuts expire to solve the debt ceiling issue. It's just plain sane logic to everyone, except for the far, far right.

Obama wanted to extend the cuts and increase the deficit.

in the spirit of compromise yes he did, the stimulus had tax cuts in it. Obama has cut taxes just like republicans, he has tried many options to get the economy rolling.

In the spirit of compromise? When did that start, exactly?

Obama wanted to extend the Bush tax cuts because he thought that raising taxes would hurt the recovery, he just wanted to raise taxes on the "wealthy."

maryland has the best public schools with the highest rated students, and is unionized, texass is not unionized and places way down the list.

what is sad is that the teachers and schools can be the best in the world, but if the students are not motivated, ur wasting time.

Democrats claim the gop is the party of "no". How can they make this claim when they havnt passed a budget in nearly 3 years. Republicans have passed 2 major pieces of fiscal legislation that have never seen the light of day in the democratically controlled senate. Seems to me the senate is not only the party of "no", they are the party of "no action"

The democratic senate has utterly failed to do the business of the American people. Harry Reed is a failed leader. It is his job to lead the senate and promote the views of his caucus through legislation. He constantly blames the house for his own failures. The bills that passed the house are supposed to be debated by his house. He has an opportunity to amend the bill in any fashion and then send it back to the house for a final vote. Then the bill would goto committee for final tweeks and resolution. Yet all he does is table the bills, no debate, no amendments, no nothing. AND THEN HE AND THE PRESIDENT BLAME HOUSE REPUBLICANS! WTF? If he doesn't like their bills its his duty to alter them to make them acceptable to his caucus. At the very least he should have offered a counter proposal in bill form. Yet we get nothing but the blame game....

Pathetic

Well I am sick of the "Blame it on Bush" thing from the Dems. I mean okay fine. Bush screwed us. Bad. And Fine. Obama found out at the last minute just HOW bad of a mess Bush got us into.
So what did he do to fix things? Spent 18 months on the worst pos legislation I've ever seen (Part of anyway). Brilliant.
I thought he did present a budget at one point that got like zero votes. I remember hearing 97-0 on something anyway.
In any case, Obama sucks. I give him an "F" on domestic agenda, an "F" on economic policy, an "F" on health care, an "F" on labor, a "B" on military (he did repeal dadt) and an "A" on intelligence / security. Works out to about a "D".

What makes you think the teachers in Texas are not unionized?

Welcome to TSTA

my cousin is a football coach at a jr high in Texass, and his wife is a biology teacher, I ask him about the republicans demonizing teachers and how it felt to be a horrible unionized public employee, and he said they are not in the union.. My friend is a basketball coach in Oklahoma I do think they are unionized.

The states are far more efficient and have less waste and fraud.

Wait ... what? Is that a joke? The typical state legislator is about as smart as a pile of rocks and as crazy as a shit house loon, and that counts for both parties. If the state's had been able to handle something like Social Security on their own we never would have had it in the first place.

Rigggggght, because states blow millions on programs like shrimp on treadmills or gays penis size causing low self esteem instead of paying important bills. Get a clue dude...

Shrimp on treadmills. Ok. That's a strangely vague yet specific response.

Most state legislatures pass around and extra money the state has to their buddies, I guess you'd prefer that.

Are you serious? And my other gay spending project was a real one too. But to your original point... These idiots in the state capitals are the same ones we elect to national office. Ya know like Obama?

Another lie.
Obama's "tax cuts" were nothing like GOP tax cuts. The vast majority were giveaways to favored groups. Temporary cuts in this or that tax will not stimulate people to save and invest more. Period.

Obama is an economic illiterate. And so is everyone who works for him.

1. Medicare will be insolvent in 2017 w/o reform.
2. SS will be insolvent in 2037 w/o reform.

None of the DC whores want to actually do anything because the other party would crucify them. This need to be resolved by a bi-partisan commission, like the Debt Commission.

Raise the retirement age; it's quite simple. Very few like this idea because on the far right, they just want to dismantle anything that the government runs, even if it's to their own detriment. On the left, nobody wants to raise the retirement age because they see it as being unfair to lower income earners who work in more physical jobs.

The fact is that both SS and Medicare are very good programs. However, they were not meant to pay people for nearly 15 years on average. Look at it this way, if all of a sudden life expectancy jumps to 90 years, are we still going to expect that people retire at 65 and that SS and Medicare will support them for 30 years? Well, that is exactly what we have done to this point, only it is not at 15 years.

Besides raising the retirement age, Medicare funding needs to be increased immediately. That means raising the payroll rate for Medicare. Whatever the rate is should be absorbed 100% by the employee.

You know what is even more simple? Actually force the the federal government to adhere to the ultimate law of the land - the US Constitution. In that single step, we would shrink this monstrosity by 80%, end the bankrupting Cuba Socialist programs, and actually secure our borders saving us hundres of billions in criminal actions and support (healthcare, education, etc.) for illegal aliens. If the federal government were forced to actually adhere to the Constitution as they are supposed to, we could probably pay off our entire debt in 3 years. Problem solved.

I would agree that Republicans are succeeding wonderfully at what they percieve their "job" to be..and fulfill their "pledge" to Grover Norquist. That would be to turn the American Government into a dysfunctional underfunded mess..that will eventually be taken over by private entities.

So far so good.
