Professors ask Congress for an ethics code for Supreme Court

A group of more than a hundred law professors from across the country has asked Congress to extend an ethical code of conduct to the Supreme Court - for the first time - and clarify when individual justices should step away from specific legal cases.

The group's appeal on Wednesday, in a letter to the House and Senate Judiciary committees, comes after recent controversies involving travel and appearances at political events by several Supreme Court justices, including Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia. Rep. Christopher S. Murphy (D-Conn.) said he plans to introduce legislation that addresses the issue.

Thomas and Scalia have been criticized by a public interest group for attending private political meetings sponsored in January 2007 and 2008 by David and Charles Koch, conservative billionaires who made large contributions during last year's election and have financially backed the tea party movement.

Law professors (Clearly the most ethical people in America) asking Congress (A great ethical bastion themselves) to prevent Judges they don't like from hearing cases.

Sounds like this has so much to do with ethics and nothing to do with politics. After all look at all the ethical people involved.

That professor., and all the ones that agree with him, are idiots.

The Supreme Court is an equal branch of the government to Congress, and not subject to any ethical codes that Congress makes up.

do they, (the SC justices) have ANY Ethical Code covering their own actions? Rules amongst themselves?

can justices be impeached by congress or not?

You know they can be impeached, if they break a law, or if Congress just gets a hair up its ass. That does not mean congress can impose rules on them arbitrarily. As for a code of ethics, if they have one they have never told anyone about it. There is a judicial ethics code that applies to the federal judiciary, but SCOTUS is not part of the federal judiciary.

The Libs know that ObamaCare is gonna' get smacked down at the Supreme Court so the race is on to get rid of Scalia or Thomas and have President Barry appoint the deciding vote.

Transparent as all hell.
