President Bush begins pulling troops

Well it wont if you maintain that stance. It seems you have given up on living in a democratic type nation. Does this mean the republic is dead and the US system of representative govt and the constitution are just failures?

I haven't given up on living in a democratic nation; I am just a realist.

No, the concept of a representative government and the Constitution are not failures but the implementation of them over the past few decades is a pretty twisted facsimile of what it should be. Do I hope it will change? Sure I do. Do I think it will cange? Nope.

All that being said, I firmly believe the US is still better (by far!) than anything else out there.

Well it seems you are contradicting yourself here. First you say that you havent given up on living in a democratic nation but then give up with the excuse that you are a "realist". That sounds like you are saying that democracy cant really happen "realistically".

You go on to say that representative govt isnt a failure even though we have failed at implementing it properly in the last few decades and dont think it will change...that is also simply giving up and showing you dont believe we can actually implement it properly..ie failure.

The US is better than anything out there? I am not even sure what this statement refers to...better apple pie? better what exactly? "Better" is purely subjective and how many systems have you lived in and experienced to make such a judgement? How can you believe we have failed at implementing democratic principles, dont believe it will change and then call that the "best"?

You seem to be completely contradicting yourself and in the end, not making much sense really. You dont really seem to believe in america at all or its system of democracy.

Your the one that doesn't believe.

If you had halfway decent reading comprehension skills you would see that I DO believe we can make the proper changes and have a thriving and healthy democracy. I am not the one who dosent think it will change or that is CANT be changed. I am not the one who thinks the govt is somthing beyond the peoples control.

Yet you stated before you were GLAD you managed to get out of the US with your children before it was to late. THAT inspires confidence in your belief system.

Yea it means that I would rather not give up my sons life for the changes we need.

As you can see by the attitude above, we have a public thats still pretty far off from making any changes or standing up to demand them. We have lied our way into a few invasions so far and are about to let them do it AGAIN with Iran.

Yep, its gonna get worse before it gets better and I am quite glad my son wont suffer for the crimes of the generations that came before him.

Of course that has nothing to do with the question IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIX THE MESS...it is possible, so far what I see is a lack of willingness and a public that seems quite demoralized.

Oh I believe in democracy; I just don't believe in the American people...folks like you managed to discourage the hell out of me.

So in essence, you want it "fixed" but are not willing to do anything to "fix" it except criticize.

I am a member of the "quite demoralized" public. Folks like you (libs/dems in particular) did that...you are probably proud of it too. I don't give a flying crap what happens to the citizens of this country anymore...they get what they deserve.

can you fathom the exact same statement directed at you? Do you think that people of your political persuasion have a stranglehold on such a sentiment?

I have been an activist for many years and will continue to work with those organizations and donate money. I donated to Kucinich campaign cause he is a candidate I truly believe in. I am willing to do many things to fix it, I am NOT willing to give my sons life to fix it though.

Well if you dont care about your own countrymen and you dont believe in your govt or that it can be fixed...what exactly are you so patriotic about? Whats so the "best" about that situation?

It's better than living in a mud hut in Africa. It's better than living in a socialist state where a few work their ass off only to give the "fruits of their labor" to some no working SOB. It's better than living under some religious extremist who kill millions in the name of Allah. And it's better than Europe.

I used to be "patriotic"...until the citizens of this country lost their spine; until this country decided that moral relativism and political correctness was more important than doing the right thing and until those same citizens decided that the United States of America was far more evil than those that seek to destroy it.

Careful, don't forget to include " present company excluded" when talking to Ms Ruby, the patriotic citizen that has just tried to let us know our military are Nazi's and our Government are as well. She just wants to warn everyone that the US military are mass murdering terrorists , but only cause they are brainwashed, stupid, or don't care.

I mean if you state somewhere in there, that it was "with all due respect" and " no personal attack intended" your good to go. You can call anyone anything then and all is forgiven. I have that from the mouth of the Board Einstein so it simply must be true.

Obviously the war is going well enough for the President to feel confident to start this process.

At what point do we start admitting that we are winning this war?

aren't you jumping to conclusions ---just a bit?

he says he plans to do so "IF", certainly no sure thing because he said that, however it is likely a sure thing because we don't have the military to sustain the surge beyond that point. So it is just a play on words.

Appeasing the public is not just Bush's perview. For all the rhetoric about pulling out the troops, the Dems/libs have been awful reluctant to cut of the funding. Guess they are not as comitted to their "principles" as they profess to be.
Do you really beleive that cutting the funding would bring the troops home? you are whistling in the dark if you do,

he would only move the funds from elsewhere to fund his precious war.

LOL, have you ANY clue how our Government works? Not only can Congress "cut funds" they can further stipulate that no money be spent on certain things, including a war in Iraq. Congress controls the purse strings. The president has no independent means to raise money and VERY little means to "transfer" funds.

Do go on and make some more ignorant comments.

Sure...that's the ticket. So the right can scream that the Dems left the troops without armaments and food? Yah...

Seriously, no one is going to hang the troops out to dry. When the Dems get a veto-proof majority, they can force the issue. Now Bush will just use his little veto pen because he wants to dump his mess on the next president.

Actually, this admin diverted funds from Afghanistan to Iraq before it was funded, so you might want to rethink that. And, yes, it was illegal. But that didn't seem to stop them.

I will wait for that Congressional oversight investigation to prove that. Funny how the Dems want to burn Bush but only you know about this?

ok. So which is it?

a) The Dems really care about the troops and the illegal war (and all the other rhetoric) and are ready and willing to do the right thing and get the troops out of Iraq because it's what they truly believe should be done.

b) The Dems are just blowing smoke and being their usual hypocritical selves to gain some sort of political advantage?

Veto or not, you would think the Dems would at least try...rather than settle for some "non-bindiong resolution" bullcrap.
