It has a strong social safety net, and pensioners should not have to be roaming around the streets poking around in rubbish bins, or suffering the indignity of going to food banks.
There is no right or left as such in Germany, like the US. It's more centrist.

Well, whatever their problems, I'm darn sure the Germans blame America for it.
They're negative about Trump and the US.
They don't even give reasoned arguments. It all sounds the same cliche, from all reaches of society. They all say the same things.
I was stuck in the back of a car last week, having to listen to someone ranting on about some dirty business deal Trump did long ago in South America. Well don't they all?

Seniors have a lot of free time, are usually in need of activities and on a fixed income.
Is there something demeaning about collecting bottles other than the perception of it being an activity of the homeless, especially in this age of environmental awareness?
Is it snobbery?

From what I have read about Hartz IV, I can conclude that it had to do with the issue of unemployment. The article says about a state which fails to provide decent pensions to its retired citizens. The main reason of the article is to show how German pension system cant anymore provide proper funding to retirees because of ageing population.I don't get why how someone wants to make some extra money in their free time bothers some. It didn't help with Gerhard Schroeder bringing in Hartz IV some years ago.
