It's not supposed to be like that in socialist Germany.
since when is germany considered socialist? its one of the most free market places in eurppe and its run by conservatives

It has a strong social safety net, and pensioners should not have to be roaming around the streets poking around in rubbish bins, or suffering the indignity of going to food banks.

There is no right or left as such in Germany, like the US. It's more centrist.

Causing massive problems, which the mainstream press(usually liberal) seems reluctant to report.

Well, whatever their problems, I'm darn sure the Germans blame America for it.

They're negative about Trump and the US.

They were negative about the US before Trump and Trump gave them a reason to let their animus out. I'm very skeptical about what's going on in Germany. They're not the nation they were in, say, the 80s. They project a lot of stuff onto us and it's not a good projection. I'm very wary.

They don't even give reasoned arguments. It all sounds the same cliche, from all reaches of society. They all say the same things.

I was stuck in the back of a car last week, having to listen to someone ranting on about some dirty business deal Trump did long ago in South America. Well don't they all?

And what has it to do with present day running of a country? I kept my mouth shut.

I remember collecting bottles when I was around 10. I only wanted to buy comics, though.

Anyway. Young people in America would be wise to invest in their own retirements while they're young. And do so with sound money.

Actualy, the cause of that is mentioned in the article.
The German population has been rapidly ageing for decades, with severe effects on the pension system. Germans are increasingly threatened by poverty in old age and relying on part-time jobs or food donations to survive.

I don't get why how someone wants to make some extra money in their free time bothers some. Seniors have a lot of free time, are usually in need of activities and on a fixed income.

Is there something demeaning about collecting bottles other than the perception of it being an activity of the homeless, especially in this age of environmental awareness?

Is it snobbery?

Why the fuck is it any of your business anyway?

Well, maybe you shouldn't. I mean, how different is it, really, the unreasonable hatred they had for Jews 80 years ago and the unreasonable hatred they have for Americans/ Trump these days? They've just shifted it to something more reasonable (they think).

And no, I don't think it's anything endemic to the German people at all. I just think it's a strange "stage of grief" thing they can't face, and a shifting of blame for the masses they've let in from the middle east.

The main reason of the article is to show how German pension system cant anymore provide proper funding to retirees because of ageing population.

It didn't help with Gerhard Schroeder bringing in Hartz IV some years ago.

The insinuation is as clear as the elitist premise; only impoverished people would stoop so low.

What about cutting coupons?

This smacks of snobbery.

From what I have read about Hartz IV, I can conclude that it had to do with the issue of unemployment. The article says about a state which fails to provide decent pensions to its retired citizens.
