Paul Ryan's campaign walked back comments the VP nominee made about running a marathon.

"I had a two hour and fifty-something" marathon, Ryan said last week an interview. "I hurt a disc in my back, so I don’t run marathons anymore."

But the Ryan campaign confirmed to Runner's World that he has only run one marathon, the 1990 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, which he finished in just over 4 hours.

"The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year—reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three," Ryan said in a prepared statement. "If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight."

Fuzzy math? Or an outright fib. Either way I wouldn't trust him with a budget!

Democrats need to run with this one. It's the most important fact they found about Ryan, aside from proving how racist he is by once dating a black girl.

“I am told that Governor Romney’s new running mate, Paul Ryan, might be around Iowa the next few days,” he said while in Council Bluffs, Iowa. “He is one of the leaders of Congress standing in the way. So if you happen to see Congressman Ryan, tell him how important this farm bill is to Iowa and our rural communities.”

The American automobile industry has come roaring back…So now I want to say what we did with the auto industry, we can do it in manufacturing across America. Let’s make sure advanced, high-tech manufacturing jobs take root here, not in China. And that means supporting investment here. Governor Romney … invested in companies that were called ‘pioneers’ of outsourcing. I don’t want to outsource. I want to insource.

Considering Ryan's RNC speech statements about the Simpson Bowles Commission (when he failed to knowledge that he was a member of the commission AND that he actually voted against its recommendations), I would say that Ryan's 'fib' about his marathon time rises above the level of a harmless fib. It's a deeply engrained character flaw. Ryan seems to have embraced the notion that lying is a means to an end, and that the ends justify the means.

Wow we don't know anything about Obama's academic history but the media is digging into the VP candidates marathon times? There's no media bias though.
