Obama hacks another limb off representative republic: FCC does Net Neutrality

Actually what Rev is trying to do is protect the big con networks who bought up all the communications during the Bush power grab era. He doesn't want anyone else to have access. And now with no restrictions on campaign contributions, the big cons can control what you hear and see on the www. That leads to their god, fucked up morals & ethics, etc.

And who also broke federal privacy wiretap type laws and got pardoned/exempted in a bill under bush and republican control.

tools of the megacorps, sigh...

It would be nice to hear people like Rev crying to ban corporations.

And what would that accomplish?

In December.

Obama doesnt' believe in a representative republic.

Just a lot of rules by agencies he controls and who answer to nobody.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski is putting together a net neutrality proposal and plans to take action on the controversial issue as early as next month, according to several sources with knowledge of the situation.

Details of the proposal being developed by Genachowski’s office are unclear, but sources say it could be similar to the deal stakeholders tried to reach with Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) earlier this fall.

The long-running net neutrality debate centers around rules that would require Internet service providers to treat all web traffic equally. Internet companies like Google and Skype want net neutrality rules applied to both wireline and wireless networks, but network operators including AT&T, Verizon and Comcast say they need flexibility to manage web traffic on their lines

It's none of the government's business. If an entity on the web wishes to filter content -or-not from their equipment it is their right to do so at their whim. The assets belong to the entities...NOT Government.

Not exactly true. The airwaves are under government control that either allow or disallow content as they deem fit. And the citizen has a right to constitutional free speech of any media source beholden to the government for registration & licensing ~ That is if they want to be on the airwaves.

Really?

That's what you think it is?

And just who do you think developed "the backbone" in the first place?

Sprint, Verizon, etc.

Don't embarrass yourself by claiming their 3g or 4g networks owe their exsitence to the internet Al Gore invented decades ago.

That, and the FCC has no authority over the internet. The SCOTUS already said so. This is a naked power grab by a discredited President who can't get anything passed through the legislative process anymore.

You're one of those fucknuts who think the internet is a public good, aren't you, fucknuts?

Back down there sonny boy. You could get hurt.

And yeah..the government developed the telecommunications backbone..and keeps sinking money into it. The FCC should have jurisdiction. Content should not be controlled by people with the most money.

This is something I have yet to understand. Are you really arguing that your ISP should have the right to decide what websites you can visit?

What if USMessageBoard isn't on their list?
Total red herring argument.

What's in it for them to block access to websites?

they will force websites to pay in order to be seen by users of a certain ISP. the more you pay, the more you get seen.

only people who actually understand computers & networking should be allowed to voice an opinion on this matter. that would cut out about 99% of the idiots spouting nonsense

the "free" internet dies the day net neutrality goes away

Yep, and listen to the likes of revere whine and cry when Verizon or someone refuses to carry porn or somesuch he likes.

yep and when AT&T blocks any sites that are critical of it. good luck accessing EFF's website or any other site dscussing illegal / unethical actions of ISPs

You folks do realize that backbone traffic is a mixed bag of std telephone, cell phone, business, net, etc types of traffic.
So your company could be put out of business if one of the mega corps refused to carry your companies net traffic. but them some like mega monopolies and hate competition.

I would love to hear the dumbass neocons fighting against net neutrality once the liberal people running the biggest ISPs completely block access to FOX, but its too bad I won't hear them since every non-liberal site could and would be legally blocked by ISPs. Fox, drudge, cato, lewrockell, etc all blocked by ISPs and championed by the idiots who would use them

nope, fox news didn't cover that so they have no idea. these are also people who have 0 understanding of how networks operate

Right now, who is blocking whose traffic?

Who has said they want to block access to Fox, besides government?

comcast owns nbc. once net neutrality is gone they could block every other new outlets site without reprieve and since comcast has a huge monopoly in many areas across the country there isn't shit people could do about it.

I worked over 25 years in mega telecom. The last 15 in the data and networking end of things....
One would not even have to control the entire net, just certain segments to shut things down.
