The US shot up through the ranks because business was open, where many other countries had plenty of restrictions. But many countries have no reduced restrictions on business and made it easier. The US has, for at least 100 years, starting in Latin America, attempted to use its power status as a tool for making business easier.

The US is generally losing its power because it's going stale. People are becoming afraid of change, afraid of challenging those who are pushing the boundaries to make things happen.
The EU is advancing quickly as a power, it's not popular, but it's happening and they're able to make the necessary changes to make things happen. Same with China. The US is like a rabbit in the headlights.
