New Group for Bible Believers.

Translation: it's impossible for brainwashed zealots to preach to the choir in a fully self-contained echo-chamber.

Some people enjoy posting in the flame zone and some prefer the clean debate forum.

The religious forum is open for anyone to debate religion, a faith based supportive discussion to inspire and share is different then a debate your beliefs thread.

Excellent explanation, Drifter. It reminds me of when Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall. The enemies of the Jews and G-d wanted to come in and get involved and Nehemiah said them - you have no part in this work. It was such a powerful statement that it literally broke the bondage the Jews had been in - like chains dropping around their feet - catapulting them to new heights - into total victory... they slept in their clothing and wore their weapons at all time - it is a spiritual representation of the alert - on fire church - very interesting comparisons can be made. imo.

I am not religious myself, however when my sister committed suicide last summer, I had a lot of religious people reach out to me and comfort me. I have to say it helped a lot and I did pray for my family and my sister's soul.

If Christians want to have a private group to encourage each other without non-believers putting a sarcasm or discouraging response in the mix they should !

Thank you drifter. I'm very saddened to hear of your loss. Heartbreaking!! I, too, will pray for your sister's soul.

Two weeks for prep?

That's ridiculous.

Jeremiah gets to pick and define the parameters of the topic, KG. If I were to engage you on a topic of my choice (and presumed expertise), it would only seem fair to allow you to brush-up on the issues and relevant discipline(s) involved.

Besides, I didn't snatch the time-frame out of thin air. Per Jeremiah's suggestion: "We can plan a week out - two weeks out - whatever you'd like." ...and agreement: "sounds good.", it seems the participants are happy with the arrangement.

So, why don't you take your juice-box and crust of unleavened bread on over to the corner for a nice quiet nibble and sip.

Hello all,

This thread got a bit out of hand. The Announcement/Feedback forum is not the place to hotly contest or debate religion nor is it the place for flaming members. The place to discuss religion is in the religion forum.

That being said, this is the right place to announce new social groups being formed. A couple of questions have been raised about social groups. I am not too familiar with them, so I'll do my best to answer what I saw.

Social groups can be public or by invite only. They offer members a more tightly controlled place to converse. The person who sets it up can determine the rules of discourse and who to allow in (or kick out)- for example they can demand civility, restrict to particular ideologies or religion or interests, or require that you say "nit" after every adjective. Social groups still fall under site-wide rules however (so - to the person who raised his hand - NO, you can not have a porn social group). Think of them as private clubs.

The other question that was brought up was can non-members see what is posted in the groups. I actually don't know, since moderators can see regardless - perhaps a non member can make an experimental foray and see if groups are viewable.

If you are interested in joining this group, please PM DriftingSand and request to join. Other than that - take discussions concerning the different aspects of religion to the Religion Forum.

Thanks :)

Here's the direct link to DS's group. It seems that non-members can monitor and link to those discussions in the regular forums if they choose to do so. Individual posts can also be reported by non-members, and the subscription option to specific discussions is also enabled for non-members.

In my opinion, the Social Group set-up, in general, is fair to the members of the groups and still appropriately accessible to non-members, so kudos to the board administrators.

Thanks. It's not like there will be anything to hide nor will there be any flaming so I'm sure than non-members will likely be rather bored by the goings-on there.

What if I believe in the bible, believe in and worship God, but I'm a Pagan? Am I welcome?

Howdy. This particular group was designed for Christians who just want to hang out with other Christians.

I've never actually heard of anyone believing the Bible and worshiping the biblical God AND being a pagan at the same time.

Anyway, the other members and I discussed whether or not we should enjoin ourselves (in the group setting) with non-Christians and we generally decided that it would be best not to for the time being.

However, I strongly suggest that if non-Christians want to start a religious group of some sort and make inter-religious-ecumenism the defining foundation for that group - then go for it. We gotta live boldly. :D

and the exclusions begin....

are yall so weak in your beliefs that you must isolate and exclude others?

Exclusion?
What exclusion, we already have a Religion and Ethics forum where all can join in and bash and ridicule the Christians.

You are welcome to start your own social group of pagans for pagans only.

matter of fact this thread stinks for these reasons:

if you truly want a social group...why not just invite people from their posts...

like avatar...etc and so forth...just troll the religious forum for new members

but nooooooooooooo you go public and make sure the people you invite are up to your standards.....

i just have to wonder ...what jesus would do?

seems you christains are more than willing to ridicule other christians....ie caps post to kg

Oh, so there's an intentional distinction between "christstains" and "christians"?

I don't think this is the place to discuss it, but why don't you go ahead and clarify the distinction for us anyway.

Coyote- senior mod said this is the right place to announce new social groups being formed.

What standards?
It is a rule- you must be a Christian.

You are free to start one yourself and announce it here and set your own rules.

What would Jesus do?
Jesus and his disciples met privately many times for serious discussions before they went out amongst the people to preach.

i got no problem with yall grouping together...seems you need it.. but when you start excluding others and i see one christain mocking another...hell ya i am gonna say something and why not just use the religious forums to find members? i find it odd that you had to go public to make sure others know they are excluded? lottie moon would be proud

They aren't excluding others. They're excluding the trolls and Christian bashers that deliberately interfere with intelligent discussion between believers.

If the religion forum was actually moderated, it would be a fine place to discuss issues. But since the mods don't see fit to moderate it according to the rules established, it's nice to be able to go somewhere and say "I would like prayers for blah blah" or "I would like to share something" without assholes immediately jumping into the thread to derail, insult, ridicule, and otherwise make asses of themselves.

It's not about being weak in belief. It's about wanting to have adult conversations that one doesn't have to interrupt continually in order to deal with cruel, off topic blabber.

You know, like you're doing here, bones.

If they want to make use of a feature of the site, what's it to you?
