Mitt Romney in 2012

No. As the year progressed it became apparent things were going downhill. And the worse the economy got the worse McCain looked in his ability to deal with it. As long as the conversation was about national security he looked better and better.

Economists have already told us that the recession started near the end of 2007....where have you been?

Yes, and I'm not certain, but I believe that fact was announced after the election.

Things are always clearer in the rear view mirror.

People largely don't care if he is a Mormon.
What they should and do care about is Mitt as the author of Mass's disasterous health care policies, which are bankrupting the state. Mitt is a Republican only in a place like MA. In the South and West he is another northeast libr'al. Do you really want his glove in your examination room?

The problem is that conservatives rightly and correctly want to curb spending in government and government programs yet want and do nothing to control and cut the costs of spiraling health care costs under the CURRENT system.
The plan has the state, NOT the Feds paying the costs. All it did was shift one burden to another.
Doctors, hospitals and pharmaceuticals gouging and ripping off consumers is the problem.

Costs Rabbi, are the problem. What else is the problem other than costs?

Romney is no liberal. That generic phrase for anyone and everyone you do not like is getting old.

So basically, you are admitting that Bush and McCain were "dumb and dumber" when it comes to our economy. Thank you. Your honesty is appreciated.

I dont know what conservatives you are talking to.
There are and have been many proposals to tackle costs. Among them are allowing insurance to be sold across state lines. Also giving the individual more say in making health care purchases. Go ask your doctor how much a given procedure costs. I would almost guarantee he will not know.
The issue is not cost per se but the fact that users of health care and payers of health care are not the same people.

Careful, I don't want you to bump your pretty head while you're jumping to conclusions.

No need to worry about me. I believe you and Beck have that area covered. BTW, how many people are wanting a peek at your ass these days?

I've still only had 2 requests.:D

Insurance companies lobby more Republicans against the state line issue than Democrats. Unions favor allowing it.
Insurance companies do not want the individual more say in making health care purchases.
The doctor knows full well what he will be paid, a different fee from the 1,000 different health care carriers we now have except for Medicaid pay.
I agree with your last sentence and group health care has caused that. Group health care has ruined American health care. All it did was focus on disease care, 60% of ALL health care dollars spent.

I have not seen anyone put up a better candidate than Mitt. Mitt has proven himself many times doing many tough jobs well. The MA healthcare mess was the same as Bush's pharmaceutical benefit pushed by the dems, and now the dems whine about it.

We need someone who is "smart and practical" to guide the US thru the global economic mess. Obama is an idealistic neophyte who has no practical experience. I don't see any other realistic choice for the GOP.

Which is as good a reason to oppose Romney as any.

What's the point in electing republicans, if they just go ahead and implement stupid socialistic democrat policies anyways?

Agreed. I'd rather have one-party rule as a "majority" than a mish-mash of "bipartisanship" run amok. It makes for a much clearer choice between policies. I see the ACLU and leftists whining about Obama?! The bad news is that neither party has the magic formula for prosperity. Clinton was close, but messed-up with his "community reinvestment" garbage.

I still say that Clinton's tax rates were about optimum. In spite of all the GOP whining. My recommendation is the era Clinton IRS and the GOP cost-cutters in Congress that balanced the Budget.

Far too early but Romney is already building his coalition team. Watch Bobby Jindall and Tim Pawlenty also gain support and one or the other will be on the ticket.
Sarah Palin, and more power to her, will not give up the tens of millions she is making to run for President.

He is a mormon. Nuff said. (well, almost, Beck would vote for him of course) :doubt:

If this economy remains stagnant, then Mitt will look pretty good.

He has three problems. First, he's a Mormon. Nearly half of Americans said they won't vote a Mormon. But hey, if Americans can vote for a black, liberal, muslim, anti-American terrorist who was born in Kenya for President, maybe they'll vote for a Mormon!

Second, he's a slimeball. He changed his position on pretty much everything in the last election to appeal to evangelical voters. But four years is a long time, so maybe everyone will forget and he can redefine himself. Since nobody can remember what happened last week, he can get over this.

Finally, and maybe most important, as former head of Bain Capital, he's going to have to explain why he should be elected President, given that he got rich piling up a ton of debt on companies and firing lots of people. Given that the next election could turn on excessive government debt and high unemployment, that's not something you want to be defending to Americans. That is, of course, if the Democrats don't act like dumbass idiot wimps and not go after Romney on this, which I suspect they won't.

Otherwise, he'll be a pretty formidable candidate.

***snippit****

However, what is probably going to sink Mitt this time will be healthcare. His opponents will attack him on the MA healthcare plan, which was the basis for the Obamacare.
Which has all but bankrupted MA, if I remember correctly.

I'm happy to prove your point, btw :D

I don't think the leading Repub is on the radar screen yet.

I think Bob Riley will stick his nose out

Your first point, Obama is not a liberal...lol Oh and this guy really is a mormon..you are correct about the thought of him never getting into that office. No way, this country will vote a mormon in as president.

Mitt would have to run as an Independent. The "base" of the GOP proved that they will never allow a Mormon on their ticket, even if he was the best candidate. If you doubt this, please Google Sarah Palin.

Amusing considering the base did overwhelming come out and support Romney in 2008. Republicans just have the incredible stupid rules allowing open primaries in certain key states that allowed non-Republicans vote for the Republican candidate.

Personally, I think Republicans should be the ones picking the Republican candidate.

I do wonder at times about some Mormon beliefs but until his third or fourth wife shows up, he's the only one currently in the picture that I would vote for in 2012.
