Marriage clerk targeted by gays revolts

Her behavior was not unconstitutional when they hired her.

The point is...gays that want cakes with same sex decorations can go to another baker. Why force someone to accept what they do not wish to accept.

Her beliefs were not an issue then, because the law wasn't in effect then. The Constitution is a living document & now includes gays under the 14th Amendment & she has to abide with whatever additions come along with the law of the land. She does not get to decide that her religious beliefs trump anybody's civil rights. Her civil rights are not being denied when she is not an agent of the government. If she cannot do both, then she needs to remove herself.
I think she wants to make a statement with her actions. From jail or not. The state needs to terminate her. Gays needs to take what they have finally been given (rights) but stop stomping others to accept them (their lifestyle). Some just flat won't and the more the battles, the worse it's going to get. For everyone.

If it is legal for gays to marry, then fine.

It is.

But the STATE hired this woman...

Actually she was elected not "hired".

and there is separation of church and STATE.

Correct. She attempted to inject her religious view into the performance of her job as a public servant.

Her RELIGIOUS beliefs are...man and woman. Period.

Which is fine. She can hold those RELIGIOUS (since you want to use capitals) beliefs all day long.

However as a representative of the STATE (since you want to use capitals) that is not a reason to refuse to do the work of the STATE.

So now she is sitting in jail and her RELIGIOUS beliefs have been violated.

She is not sitting in jail because of her beliefs, she is sitting in jail because of her actions.

Kinda like Rosa Parks being pissed about sitting at the back of da bus.

Rosa Parks wasn't a STATE (since you want to use capitals) agents representing the STATE.

Rosa Parks practiced civil disobedience to eliminate discrimination.

Ms. Davis is attempting civil disobedience to promote discrimination by the STATE (since you want to use capitals).

In neither the Sweetcakes case (Oregon) or Masterpiece Cakes case (Colorado) - the two nationally known bakers cases - did the couples ask for any "same sex decorations".

The were refused any wedding cake. If you look at both the Sweetcakes and Masterpiece cakes catalogs of wedding cakes there are many cakes that have no sexual orientation indicative decorations.

This is an example of one from Masterpiece Cakes. Could you point out the sexual orientation decorations for us?

When the facts don't fit the story, it requires lies, half-truths, hyperbole, innuendo, rumors and deflections. Without these rhetorical devices they would be struck dumber.

Amen to all of this. Just because they have rights now doesn't mean that everyone else has to kiss their rights good bye.

God bless you always!!!

I use caps for EMPHASIS. Deal with it.

And, you are missing the point.
Wanna suck each others dicks? Fine. Knock yourselves out.
Wanna carpet munch each other? Fine. Knock yourselves out.
Do I care? Nope. But when you DEMAND that those not tolerant of YOUR lifestyle (general *you*) while ignoring people of like mind such as *YOURSELF* by ruining others businesses instead of HELPING *your own* by being patrons of struggling gay businesses that would be happy having you as customers, but choose to getting those that disagree with said life style tossed in jail, don't be surprised if *your* actions cause a major backlash and those who USED to be sympathetic to *your* "cause" wind up getting fed up. Kinda like the Black Lives Matter crap going on.

Assuming this post is directed at me as a continuation of the previous post.

And, you are missing the point.

Ummm no I'm not.

Ms. Davis has every right to believe as she wishes. I support her in that.

On the other hand the Rowan County Clerk as an agent of the STATE cannot discriminate against citizens in the duties that are to be performed.

If Ms. Davis beliefs are incomparable with her job then she should do the honorable thing and resign.

Wanna suck each others dicks? Fine. Knock yourselves out.

Kind of hard to do (no pun intended) as I have a dick but my wife does not.

Wanna carpet munch each other? Fine. Knock yourselves out.

Kind of hard to do as my wife has a "carpet" and I have a dick.

Do I care? Nope. But when you DEMAND that those not tolerant of YOUR lifestyle (general *you*)

Why would people be intolerant of my heterosexual lifestyle?

while ignoring people of like mind such as *YOURSELF* by ruining others businesses instead of HELPING *your own* by being patrons of struggling gay businesses that would be happy having you as customers, but choose to getting those that disagree with said life style tossed in jail, don't be surprised if *your* actions cause a major backlash and those who USED to be sympathetic to *your* "cause" wind up getting fed up. Miss the ball again with that swing. I support the repeal of Public Accommodation laws as applied to private businesses. They should be able to refuse service to any customer for any reason includeing the customers race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, parental status (covered by some states), veterans status (covered by some states) or if the walk in wearing a pirates outfit with a parrot on their should going "Ahoy Matey!".

I find it interesting that Public Accommodation laws mean that in all 50 states a gay baker cannot refuse a wedding cake to a customer because that customer is Christian. On the other hand in only a couple of dozen cake can a "christian" baker not refuse a wedding cake because a customer is gay.

Christians are protected from non-discrimination under Public Accommodation laws in many more states than gays are.

Wow. Do you really believe Gays & Lesbians aren't facing the same prejudices experienced by women, blacks, Italians, the Irish, Chinese and Latinos? They too were the target of rants like yours, and some today are still being discriminated against and denied equal opportunities. The American dream is a myth; unless one fits in too many doors remain closed.

Consider one I didn't mention, those with a deep southern accent. Most people who hear the accent believe the speaker is not very smart. How would you like to be denied opportunities based on such a prejudice?

Sigh. Never mind. Either it's over everyone's head or I suck at expressing what I am trying to convey. Probably the latter.

Tell those homos to try that where a Muslim clerk or judge is involved.

That ain't Kentucky where the gay citizens live.....that is under the US Constitution...
Two non-homo dudes should tell a Muslim judge or clerk anywhere in the US to marry them in the name of buttfucking and if the Muslim refuses make a big public stink. If he agrees, make sure it's posted on every Muslim terrorist social media site.

This is why civil servants aren't supposed to be political operatives. She needs to pull up her big-girl pants and do her job.

Or step down. You can have religious convictions. You can't use the State to force unwilling people to practice your religion.
It's not forcing religious practice on anyone. It's forcing the return to normalcy.

Its explicitly forcing her religion. She's stated that its her religious conviction that prevents her from doing her job. And she's using state authority to force gays and lesbians to abide her religion.

That's the state establishment of religion. She's toast.
Go to the next county. Problem solved. Treat it like a dry County. That's legal.

Bad comparison.

The county has a legal right to be dry. What this woman did was a clear violation of the law. The problem is that she wouldn't allow anyone in her office to issue the license thus preventing the Clerk's Office from fulfilling a statutory duty. The judge did the only thing he could possibly do. His job was to enforce the law and the law said that the Clerk's Office would issue marriage licenses. The law also gives gays the same rights to marry as heterosexual couples. The judge wisely refused to let her off with a fine. The judge knew the fine would not change her behavior because she would probably not pay the fine herself and would most likely profit by the affair.

If she had simply allowed someone else in her office to issue the licenses there never would have been a problem.

She cannot be fired , she has refused to resign & has stated she will continue to deny the rights of gays even if she is fined. How come this particular issue, she is taking a stand against, but from what I have learned, she has issued marriage licenses to previously divorced couples when divorce is equivalent to adultery according to the Bible?

She does not get to play a sanctimonious fundie with one group of people & a secular permissible county clerk with another. That is hypocritical & deceitful to say the least.

She is not to be held in high regard & respected for 'taking a stand' when all she is REALLY doing is being a hateful bigot.... & not anything else except trying to hide behind her 'Christianity' to do it.

Au CONtraire, you have been expressing yourself quite well, & there's no questioning where your mindset is- & it's certainly not at "the back of da bus".

Since Obama refuses to do his duty, he should be fired as well.
He feels that bringing in hundreds of thousands of foreigners in a human-trafficking scheme to pad his ballot boxes is okay. He also supports giving illegals immunity from the law in sanctuary cities.

Amazing that Democrats, who regularly facilitate if not outright advocate law-breaking, insist on anyone adhering to the letter of the law in any case. Personally, you're all just a bunch of hypocrites.
