Many Faiths, One Truth

Where does it say that God is going to kill anyone? Again I would like a scripture reference.

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)

2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father got into a fight with one of the Israelite men. During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the LORD's name. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother's name was Shelomith. She was the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan. They put the man in custody until the LORD's will in the matter should become clear. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard him to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death. Say to the people of Israel: Those who blaspheme God will suffer the consequences of their guilt and be punished. Anyone who blasphemes the LORD's name must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the LORD's name will surely die. (Leviticus 24:10-16 NLT)

1) Suppose there are prophets among you, or those who have dreams about the future, and they promise you signs or miracles, and the predicted signs or miracles take place. If the prophets then say, 'Come, let us worship the gods of foreign nations,' do not listen to them. The LORD your God is testing you to see if you love him with all your heart and soul. Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. The false prophets or dreamers who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of slavery in the land of Egypt. Since they try to keep you from following the LORD your God, you must execute them to remove the evil from among you. (Deuteronomy 13:1-5 NLT)

2) But any prophet who claims to give a message from another god or who falsely claims to speak for me must die.' You may wonder, 'How will we know whether the prophecy is from the LORD or not?' If the prophet predicts something in the LORD's name and it does not happen, the LORD did not give the message. That prophet has spoken on his own and need not be feared. (Deuteronomy 18:20-22 NLT)

So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relationships with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men and, as a result, suffered within themselves the penalty they so richly deserved. When they refused to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their evil minds and let them do things that should never be done. Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They are forever inventing new ways of sinning and are disobedient to their parents. They refuse to understand, break their promises, and are heartless and unforgiving. They are fully aware of God's death penalty for those who do these things, yet they go right ahead and do them anyway. And, worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too. (Romans 1:24-32 NLT)

For the LORD had said to Moses, 'Exempt the tribe of Levi from the census; do not include them when you count the rest of the Israelites. You must put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and its equipment as you travel, and they must care for it and camp around it. Whenever the Tabernacle is moved, the Levites will take it down and set it up again. Anyone else who goes too near the Tabernacle will be executed.' (Numbers 1:48-51 NLT)

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

Now you are proving that you are totally incapable of understanding English. I asked for scriptures that talk about God killing anyone, what you come up with is a bunch of command for man to kill man under the Mosaic covenant.

I know you consider telling the truth hateful. I consider lying to someone and telling them that they are okie dokie as the walk of a cliff hateful. I guess it all goes back to the difference between yours and my religion. You believe death is good, I believe it is bad.

If you want your point of view respected, respect others. Respect is a two way street, and respect is not an entitlement, it's earned.

Which flies in the face of your OP.

Not really. If you want respect for your point of view you have to listen to and respect others.

Now you are proving that you are totally incapable of understanding English. I asked for scriptures that talk about God killing anyone, what you come up with is a bunch of command for man to kill man under the Mosaic covenant.

I understand English very well. These are orders from God to kill. It is justified by God as his command. Hence, it is God who kills. I can go ahead and post more and more examples. Millions have been killed per God's instruction. Your obvious lies and deception do not change that. If God wants you dead, you will be dead in a second. Have you ever read Acts?

There was also a man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. He brought part of the money to the apostles, but he claimed it was the full amount. His wife had agreed to this deception. Then Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren't lying to us but to God." As soon as Ananias heard these words, he fell to the floor and died. Everyone who heard about it was terrified. Then some young men wrapped him in a sheet and took him out and buried him. About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, "Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?" "Yes," she replied, "that was the price." And Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of doing a thing like this – conspiring together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Just outside that door are the young men who buried your husband, and they will carry you out, too." Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear gripped the entire church and all others who heard what had happened. (Acts 5:1-11 NLT)

Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB)

Then the LORD said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for these people, I wouldn't help them. Away with them! Get them out of my sight! And if they say to you, 'But where can we go?' tell them, 'This is what the LORD says: Those who are destined for death, to death; those who are destined for war, to war; those who are destined for famine, to famine; those who are destined for captivity, to captivity.' "I will send four kinds of destroyers against them," says the LORD. "I will send the sword to kill, the dogs to drag away, the vultures to devour, and the wild animals to finish up what is left. Because of the wicked things Manasseh son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem, I will make my people an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth." (Jeremiah 15:1-4 NLT)

I will make Mount Seir utterly desolate, killing off all who try to escape and any who return. I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your streams will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 35:7-9 NLT)

My angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites; and I will wipe them out. (Exodus 23:23 NAB)

That night the angel of the Lord went forth and struck down one hundred and eighty five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. Early the next morning, there they were, all the corpuses of the dead. (2 Kings 19:35 NAB)

iT GOES ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON. If you had ever read the Bible you would know that. Unfortunately, because you worship Satan, you lie all of the time and are condemned to Hell.

Again, where does God say He is going to kill anyone? You keep point backwards when I ask you about the future. You falsely claim that God is going to kill most of the people who are currently alive, and I am challenging you to attempt a defense. Once you do I will be able to show you exactly why you are incorrect in your exegesis, and I will be able to point to the entirety of scripture to prove I am more likely to be correct. Your position ignores verses that disagree with your position and twist others totally out of context.

So, one more time, where does God say that He is going to kill anyone?

This tells me a great deal about Neubarth's wishes. Nothing about God's, but plenty about Neubarth's.

Personally, I don't think that anyone who worships full of vengence and hate is getting closer to God.

I don't think fear based messages show great faith. They indicate the opposite IMO.

The Gospel of Inclusion
“A person who spends every day getting drunk, will ruin their health, marriage, family, and career; they will make their lives a living Hell. But that still falls far short of the chronic alcoholic being condemned by a just God to literally burn in Hell forever and ever.

For others it may very well be that the punishment merited by their sins is greater than what they receive in this life. For those people perhaps there will be some kind of punishment after death, but we believe that it will be remedial and corrective rather than just punishment for punishment's sake. Exactly what that will be and how long it will last we don't know. Will Hell for some people last 10 minutes or 10 million years... we don't know. But this we do know: Hell will not last for eternity; it will not be endless... Don't sin. Be reunited with God now, rather than after you have put yourself (and those you love) through Hell.”

—Bishop Pearson's belief in Hell as stated on his Web site [5]

After watching a television program about the wretched conditions of people suffering and dying in Rwanda, and considering the teachings of his church that non-Christians were going to Hell, Pearson believed he had received an epiphany from God. He stated publicly that he doubted the existence of Hell as a place of eternal torment.

In February 2002, Pearson lost a primary election for the office of mayor of Tulsa.[6] By then Pearson had begun to call his doctrine—a variation on universal reconciliation—the Gospel of Inclusion and many in his congregation began to leave.

In March 2004, after hearing Pearson's argument for inclusion, the Joint College of African-American Pentecostal Bishops concluded that such teaching was heresy.[1] Declared a heretic by his peers, Pearson rapidly began to lose his influence.[7] Membership at the Higher Dimensions Church fell below 1,000, and the church lost its building to foreclosure in January 2006. The church members began meeting in the nearby Trinity Episcopal Church as the New Dimensions Church.

Saturday afternoon while channel surfing, I came across a documentary on this man. What got my interest was his "gospel of inclusion", which is pretty much what this thread started with.

Interestingly enough, when Bishop Pearson started to speak his message in his church (he'd gotten quite high in the church by then), the people at the top immediately came down on his head. Why? Simple.........he was taking the control the church had away from the leaders and putting it where it belonged......in the hands of the people.

He was branded a heretic and was kicked out of his church in OK.

However..........a church in San Francisco heard about him and asked him to come over and preach. He did and is now preaching the gospel of inclusion in a church that is steadily growing.

Me? I kinda have the same beliefs. When I was younger, I was in foster care (orphaned at 8), and every place that I went to would tell me I was going to hell if I didn't drop my previous beliefs and believe as they did.

Went through Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist (Northern and Southern), Episcopalian and a couple of others. By the time I was 18, I turned my back on Christianity and started looking for something else.

I found Zen to be quite a nice guide, and further study introduced me to Tao. I took to that like a fish to water and found that it worked very well for me. A couple of years later, I was transferred to a ship where my room mate was the ships Chaplain. What happened over that next 2 years was that he and I decided that we'd look for similarities rather than differences, and both found that we pretty much had the same values and ethics as each other, even if we did practice different belief systems.

After that, I came to Amarillo, and a friend of mine over here introduced me to Judaic theology. I compared Judaic theology against Tao (much like I did with my ship mate), and found something VERY interesting............Tao shares almost the same view that Judaic theology does.

Then, I came across a paper comparing Buddhist teachings alongside what Yeshua taught.

Guess what? Many similarities appear between those as well.

Want to know why there are so many divisions in religion today? Simple........you see it in the fanatical groups..........they're trying to "out purify" each other in a bid to say that they are the ones closest to God.

Interestingly enough though, it's the people that exclude others via those methods that are the furthest away, because they are blinded by their own biases. The ones that say they want to kill all those that don't believe as they do are even further away.

When Yeshua referred to the fact "the Father and I are One", he was using a parable to tell people about something in Judaic theology, because according to them, at around the 40 day mark after your parents get together and the embryo starts to form, God carves out a small piece of His energy which becomes your soul, which means that we are all a small little piece of Him.

If people would just realize that, the world would be a happier place. Why else do you think that when Yeshua was asked about the greatest Commandment, He stated "Love God above all else, and love one another like you love God"?

I saw this article written by HH the Dalai Lama. It made me think about the challenges we have talking about our respective different spiritual tradtions in the religion forum . I thought it might serve as food for thought. What truth can we find in all walks of life regardless of the presence or absence of a specific faith tradtion?

"Though intolerance may be as old as religion itself, we still see vigorous signs of its virulence. In Europe, there are intense debates about newcomers wearing veils or wanting to erect minarets and episodes of violence against Muslim immigrants. Radical atheists issue blanket condemnations of those who hold to religious beliefs. In the Middle East, the flames of war are fanned by hatred of those who adhere to a different faith.

Such tensions are likely to increase as the world becomes more interconnected and cultures, peoples and religions become ever more entwined. The pressure this creates tests more than our tolerance — it demands that we promote peaceful coexistence and understanding across boundaries.

Granted, every religion has a sense of exclusivity as part of its core identity. Even so, I believe there is genuine potential for mutual understanding. While preserving faith toward one’s own tradition, one can respect, admire and appreciate other traditions.

Finding common ground among faiths can help us bridge needless divides at a time when unified action is more crucial than ever. As a species, we must embrace the oneness of humanity as we face global issues like pandemics, economic crises and ecological disaster. At that scale, our response must be as one.

Harmony among the major faiths has become an essential ingredient of peaceful coexistence in our world. From this perspective, mutual understanding among these traditions is not merely the business of religious believers — it matters for the welfare of humanity as a whole. "

Don't worry, you will get what you are longing for. You will bite the one world religion hook line and sinker. Only to find out there is ONE true G-d and it aint the one you chose.

The only reason we have "intolerance" is because we have religions that seek to wipe out another race or religion to attain peace. The concept of coexistence and a one world religion is just this concept on steroids.

I found this a hateful post, The Light. You misrepresent Sky Dancer's POV as "one world religion" and you compare the Dahlia Lama to genocidical maniacs. If she had compared the Pope to them, you'd be outraged. It is precisely this sort of lack of respect that she is addressing.

That's true. Someone telling their child that if they kill people they will wind up in prison or if they cross a busy street they are going to get run over. Gee that is hateful. I mean really, they should tell that kid that if he crosses the street he will find the truth and happiness he is seeking. And tell that would be murderer that you find his ideas fascinating.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to respect the views of others. I think we can passionately disagree with one another and still treat each other with respect and civility. I think we can disagree with one another and still encourage each other to grow and to come closer to God.

One of my favorate quotes supports this idea:

If I esteem mankind to be in error, shall I bear them down? No. I will lift them up, and in their own way too, if I cannot persuade them my way is better; and I will not seek to compel any man to believe as I do, only by the force of reasoning, for truth will cut its own way. * (Joseph Smith - Living in Harmony with Others)

We should all lift each other up. If we disagree on points that's fine. But there are areas we can agree and we can and should support on another in these efforts.

*Sighs* I think you just enjoy insulting the religions of others, The Light.

I think he just doesn't tolerate difference. It's different for Buddhists. From the perspective of Buddhism, "true faith" has no country boundary, and it doesn't require the trademark of a religion. It does not belong to any one religion, or to any one person at any one time. The "true doctrine" preached h the Buddha is not His exclusive possession, the Buddha was simply one of the discoverers of the Truth. Just like Newton discovered the law gravity, he did not possess the law.

That is why Buddhism teaches that all reasonable, and everlasting doctrines of any religion are also considered to be Buddhist principles, and many Buddhist principles are also part of the teachings of other religions.

"Love thy enemy" came from the Christian bible. Buddhism unquestionably recognizes this virtuous truth, and this saying is also stressed in a similar manner in the teachings of Buddhism. A number of the Christian Ten Commandments are also very similar to the five Precepts (rules) of Buddhism

Calling other people's beliefs lies is disrespectful to them. The Truth just is.

Perhaps, but does that change the facts that some beliefs are lies?

I'm not in favor of bearing people down, so to speak. And thinking about it telling people their beliefs are lies qualifies. Id rather preach the Truth. I find it more effective that way.
