LeVar Burton wants you to read banned books

All.

The Bible isn't banned, nor are numerous related works.

I'm 99.999% certain you're mistaken.

Were this the case, massive lawsuits would occur, and the Bible returned to these libraries.

If you'd like to provide the names of these school districts, we can further explore and discuss.

99.999 percent? Are you that certain?

Banned as noted.
Under a definition you created that doesn't apply to the situation. IOW, you simply yelled, "BANNED" and now think that proves the point. Words mean things and banned doesn't mean "not readily available to children in a children's library".

An excellent piece on book bans in Wisconsin and other related issues:

A huge number of these bans are driven by conservative homophobia, but the pushback has energized the literary community at large.

The law of unintended consequences.

:)
There are no bans.

The Bible doesn’t contain pornographic images, it doesn’t talk about tasting your own vaginal fluid, or using vibrators.
It advocates for the rape, torture and murder of children; are you okay with that?
It doesn’t talk about sex with children.
See above.
So, no, the material in that book, and many others is not appropriate for 12+ year olds.
We can agree to disagree, but I think books like the ones you shared, and the Bible, are okay for 12+s.

None should be banned.
Even though YOU may think so, many other parents do not, and don’t want those kinds of books to be accessible to kids in the school library.
The Bible is pretty horrendous, yes, but as with the graphic novels pictured, fine for 12+s who seek them out.
Got any evidence of that?
Numerous comments in this thread, and numerous other threads here.

This is 100% driven by conservative homophobia/hysteria.
I’ll tell you what, show me some books that depict, with images, straight sex that are still in their libraries, and I’ll think you’re on to something.
The Bible is far worse than anything you shared, but I think it's fine for 12+s.
Show me where anyone has said they are banning books because of their trans content.
LGBTQ+ content; hundreds if not thousands of comments.

Denying this is denying basic reality.
No, I’ve not been taken in by anything
You may perhaps be more of a soldier in the war on expression then.
I just look at a situation and see it for what it is.
What you beleive it is, but I think you lack objectivity.
It was the left who started all the “don’t say gay” nonsense, when that bill didn’t say anything of the sort.
I have no idea what you're talking about; the topic is banned books.
It was the left who started all the “they banned books about gay and trans people because of their trans/gay content”
I think any rational person can see this, and also many conservatives who have said this hundreds/thousands of times on this thread/forum.
when nobody has said anything of the sort.
You're denying reality.
Perhaps it’s you who have been taken in by the rage and hysteria
Not at all; I oppose it.

Please show us the relevant parts of the Bible that talk about rape, torture, and murder of kids.
Feel free to Google this.

It's also been shared dozens of times on most/all the book ban threads here.

Conservatives ignore all the information provided, and ask for it again and again, and I have no interest in playing that troll game any longer.

Wait until the Islamic agendas get strong enough here. They will bypass the lawyers and judges.
This sounds like fear mongering to me.

It's also irrelevant/fallacious/off-topic.

99.999 percent? Are you that certain?

At least 99.999% certain.

From your link:

"The districts said they returned all editions of the Bible to shelves."

Thus the Bible is not banned.

But take care, and be careful that the fires you start don't burn your own houses down.

:)

Banned as noted, as well as under the word's definition.

Banned as noted, as well as under the word's definition.
Adult: "Kid, you're too young to buy alcohol"
Kid: "You're banning alcohol!"

Adult: "Kid, you're too young to freely access pron in your school library"
Kid: "You're banning books!"

And scene.

That was one district. They were banned and other districts ban Bibles. Then again, you were the one who was 99.999% certain there were NO Bible Bans.

Books banned as noted/defined.

Three, and the Bibles were removed for review and reinstated.
They were banned and other districts ban Bibles.
Please cite any district where the Bible is banned. TIA
Then again, you were the one who was 99.999% certain
Correct.
there were NO Bible Bans.
Still 99.999% certain.

And .001 does not equal 0, correct.

I'd say you were better at math than words, but you say in the post I'm quoting here that 1 = 3, so...

Why would a Bible need to be removed? Once it is removed, it has been banned. It got reinstated…. That doesn’t change the fact it was banned. See UTAH as well as Colorado.

Why would a Bible need to be removed?
These Bibles were temporarily removed for review, and placed back into circulation.

Google for more info. on the specifics.

But the blowback is inevitable; arsonists are always burning themselves down, but don't know it until they feel the heat.

As with free speech suppression, book banners/burners are asking for a taste of their own medicine.
Once it is removed, it has been banned.
I agree; in this case, I would describe the removals as essentially temporary bans.
It got reinstated…. That doesn’t change the fact it was banned.
Hence my 99.999% assessment; I guessed there had been blowback somewhere.

But you stated that the schools your kids went to had all banned the Bible, and never followed up on that, unless the 3 districts in question are these districts.

But the Bible is not banned in these districts.

It was temporarily banned, or in the weaselly words of the removers, "removed for review."
See UTAH as well as Colorado.
If you'd like to share links to specific alleged bans, I'm happy to look them over.

In Utah, the Bible was removed for two weeks in one district prior to a reversal and reinstatement.

It is thus not banned in Utah.

In Colorado, a district was asked to remove the Bible as a direct response to conservative demands for bans of LGBTQ+ supportive literature, but this request did not succeed, and was only made to illustrate the dangers of conservative free speech suppression/arson.

It is thus not banned in Colorado.

But while the Bible is wildly inappropriate for under 12s, I don't support the banning of deeply disturbing books like the Bible and Mein Kampf for 12+s.

Until then, my assessment stands, as does the degree of my certainty.

The Bibles were banned. When I say read a book that has been banned and it is the Bible, I am 99.999% true. “Removed for Review” and then “restored” doesn’t change the fact they were banned.

The Bibles were banned.
For two weeks in one Utah school district, and a few months in the instances you cited via link.

Not currently unavailable or banned in any of these places, but I get it - it's all about the speck in the eye of the other, and not the plank in your own.

And not remotely comparable to the homophobia, hysteria and rage driving ACTIVE bans of numerous books in numerous other districts, though no doubt in part backlash against this ignorant conservative hysteria.

From your link above:

“To our knowledge, objections to the Bible in the last year have occurred as a reaction to efforts to ban so many books,” Friedman said. “In each case where it was banned, it seems to have been inadvertent, and the decision was, to our knowledge, reversed.”

One might think conservatives would have learned something from 8 years of liberal attempts to silence both the left and conservatives, but instead, you're emulating this sickness, and inspiring more of it, but now against your own precious moral pornography like the Bible.
When I say read a book that has been banned and it is the Bible, I am 99.999% true.
Congratulations.

But this thread is about books CURRENTLY banned, and not conservative whining about their imaginary victimhood over brief and now reversed holds/pulls/bans in a few districts that were inspired by conservative Talibanism.
“Removed for Review” and then “restored” doesn’t change the fact they were banned.
Congratulations - you're a victim.

You may pick up a free Bible as reparations in any nearby motel room.

If you'd now like to discuss the actual topic in a rational and adult fashion, you're more than welcome to do so. :)

The topic was banned books. The Bible happens to have been one of them.

Someone asked Mintruit earlier to cite the passages where the Bible advocates rape and murder of children. He ignored the challenge….Which tells me he’s full of shit.

Was one of the desiples a democrat?

Asked and answered dozens of times in numerous threads.

There's also Google and the Bible itself.

But conservatives, as is their pattern, insist on denying reality, and denouncing the simple truth as well as those who speak it.
