LeVar Burton wants you to read banned books

Have you actually looked at some of the material in these books? Go take a look at the gender queer book and tell me…do you think it belongs in a jr high school library.

Here, I’ll help you out:

So tell me, do you think that material is appropriate for teenagers in a school library?
So…anyone? Rigby ? Winterborn? Care to comment? I have a feeling if I start looking in to some of those “banned” books, I’ll probably find more content along these lines and that’s why they were removed from schools.

Thanks for posting.

Looks fine for teenagers, yes.

I read a banned book every day…. The Bible.
Where is the Bible banned in the US?

It's in school libraries, as are many other books concerning Christianity.

This is despite the Bible's strong pro-child rape/torture/murder stance.

If people in Florida can go into a book store and buy the books, they're not banned.
If people in Florida can order the books from Amazon and have them delivered to their houses for their kids to read, they're not banned.
If people in Georgia can put the books in their cars, take them into Florida and give them to people on the streets without getting arrested, they're not banned.

Now, how are they banned if the only change is kids can't freely access them in school libraries?
Banned as noted.

In your opinion, but other parents may not agree. Do you think those things should be available in SCHOOL libraries?

I was pointing out WHY the books are removed from school libraries . It’s not because of the pro trans content (while I admit that some people find that offensive), but, the images depicted in this book are why it got removed. I images most of the other 500 books Florida removed had age inappropriate content as well.

What public school libraries are you seeing it? At all of my kids public schools didn’t have it.

Sorry bout that,

1. LeVar Burton gets to read books to children, PBS, perhaps he wants to read more on the edge, of decent books now, while he looks all googlie eyed, on camera, while he is whacking his meat?
2. Perv.

As with the Bible, I think they're fine for any 12+s who may want to seek them out.

They were removed due to homophobia, rage, hysteria and a desire to silence and control. Taliban stuff.

See above.

You may be decent person, but you've been taken in by raging/hysterical Talibanis.

No; it was for Talibanic reasons.

All.

The Bible isn't banned, nor are numerous related works.
At all of my kids public schools didn’t have it.
I'm 99.999% certain you're mistaken.

Were this the case, massive lawsuits would occur, and the Bible returned to these libraries.

If you'd like to provide the names of these school districts, we can further explore and discuss.

An excellent piece on book bans in Wisconsin and other related issues:

A huge number of these bans are driven by conservative homophobia, but the pushback has energized the literary community at large.

The law of unintended consequences.

:)

The Bible doesn’t contain pornographic images, it doesn’t talk about tasting your own vaginal fluid, or using vibrators. It doesn’t talk about sex with children.

So, no, the material in that book, and many others is not appropriate for 12+ year olds. Even though YOU may think so, many other parents do not, and don’t want those kinds of books to be accessible to kids in the school library.

Got any evidence of that? I’ll tell you what, show me some books that depict, with images, straight sex that are still in their libraries, and I’ll think you’re on to something. Show me where anyone has said they are banning books because of their trans content.

You may be decent person, but you've been taken in by raging/hysterical Talibanis.

No, I’ve not been taken in by anything, I just look at a situation and see it for what it is. It was the left who started all the “don’t say gay” nonsense, when that bill didn’t say anything of the sort. It was the left who started all the “they banned books about gay and trans people because of their trans/gay content” when nobody has said anything of the sort. Perhaps it’s you who have been taken in by the rage and hysteria

Please show us the relevant parts of the Bible that talk about rape, torture, and murder of kids.

Wait until the Islamic agendas get strong enough here. They will bypass the lawyers and judges.
