Latest Puerto Rico death toll more than doubles

Puerto Rico's death toll from Hurricane Maria more than doubles to 34

Just hours earlier when President Donald Trump visited the island to survey the damage the official death toll remained as it has for days at 16 dead.

-----------

95% of the Island still has no power. That means no communication 20 miles outside the city and beyond.
The death toll will only rise.

It's only started. This will be worse than Katrina where Republicans watched people die on their roof tops. They didn't care then. They won't care now.
The PR teamsters dont give a fuck
I don't know what you are talking about.

Unless you are repeating that fake news lie that PR Truck drivers are on strike. But you won't do that. Even you aren't that low.
Yes he is

Unfortunately, I know.

Watch, Trump will talk in LV tomorrow and thank them for "not whining about not getting help" or something similar. He is like watching a turd speak.

37% have cell phone service restored. That was as of yesterday. They're moving fast on getting more restored.

All 10 airports are operating. 65% of cell phone towers are operational. The recovery is going along pretty much as expected.

Unified Coordination Group Addressing Puerto Rico Recovery, Governor Says > U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Article

The most serious problem is the massive debt that the government ran up. Thankfully Trump is presidrnt and exploring ways of wiping that out.

I'm at DoD too. Great information and accurate information as compared to the bullshit that's out there. Holy toledo Gutierrez was giving interviews in Chicago and lying and I mean lying his ass off that the military hadn't even arrived.

Well I know someone that works for the DoJ that lives really close to San Juan and they haven't been heard from yet. They are a mod on a writer's forum I'm a member of, and you can believe that if they had any way of communicating with anyone, they would have contacted someone by now.

Thanks for the link...its amazing how quickly they are getting things going again. Those folk need to prepare better for the next storm.

Trump doles out praise as Puerto Ricans despair - CNNPolitics

At one point, he handed out flashlights. "You don't need them anymore," the President remarked. By Tuesday, power had been restored to less than 7% of Puerto Rico.

There's no power and only intermittent access to drinkable water in Loíza. No one's cell phone works. The neighbors said they needed FEMA's help. But what were they supposed to do, put in an application online?

Near the eastern tip of the island, Elba Bonano said she had seen only a single aid truck pass through her neighborhood as of Monday.

"They gave you a couple bottles of water and they gave you Skittles ... and tuna fish and that's it," she said.

It looks like Republicans have forgotten cell phones need to be charged.

Hilarious they post a link to Trump and just assume Honest Don must be telling the truth. When you follow a cult leader, you believe him. No matter how many times he lies.

Desperation Grows in Puerto Rico’s Poor Communities Without Water or Power

'We Could See Significant Epidemics'
Rodríguez del Valle said the mosquito bites that have been reported in Caño Martín Peña in recent days suggest diseases like dengue, Zika or chikungunya, which take several days or longer to surface after the initial bites, are on their way.

Health experts say mosquito- and water-borne diseases present a serious concern for all of Puerto Rico.

"Unless there is massive intervention to implement some type of health infrastructure, we could see significant epidemics in the coming weeks," said Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Twenty miles east of San Juan in Loiza, a coastal community where 65 percent of residents are black and and nearly half of residents live below the poverty level, there are already reports of diarrheal diseases.

"We are seeing increasing rates of gastrointestinal disease as there are increasing reports of people drinking river water, and otherwise unable to access clean water," Skopec, of Project HOPE, said. "It's a very bad situation and the outlook is that it's going to continue to get worse before it gets better."

On Radio, Hospitals Beg for Fuel for Generators
South of San Juan in Salinas, a low-income community largely of African descent on the Caribbean Coast, community leaders say they have received little outside assistance.

"The hospitals are on the radio asking for diesel and fuel to run their generators," said Ruth Santiago, an environmental lawyer for Comité Diálogo Ambiental, Inc. (Environmental Dialogue) in Salinas. "Elder centers, they are asking families to pick up their relatives."

. Puerto Rico's Center for Investigative Journalism reported that morgues are at capacity, the official system for registering deaths is barely functioning, and the number could rise into the hundreds due to the territory's damaged health care infrastructure.

Oh yea,
things are just moving ahead fantastic. Fantastic if you are white, in the city and your home is made from concrete.

Fantastic!

This is turning into one horrendous disaster. How much longer can right wingers refuse to see it?

`

By electing corrupt and incapable politicians, Puerto Ricans must shoulder the responsibility of their present situation. Their debt is their own making.and a separate issue to hurricane disaster aid.

What people died on their rooftops?
The ones who didn't evacuate and then put
rescuers lives at risk because of their stupid asses

I remember watching people looting
acting like savages and animals...
they weren't trying to help anyone

The real devastation didn't come from Katrina,
it was the neglected, poorly constructed levees
that didn't nor, couldn't, withstand Katrina

No matter how much anyone prepares for situations,
doesn't mean you'll be prepared for the actual event!

You know, Trump doesn't really understand how disasters work.

Not only do you have the initial deaths that are caused directly by the storm, but you also have deaths that come later that are indirectly caused by the storm.

Yeah, the current death toll is around 16, but you can bet that when they get to the other towns where communications haven't been reestablished yet, there will be more bodies to count.

Trump is gonna break his arm patting himself on the back so early on this one.
