Korean boyband/girl group- getting popular?

I am not an American. However, I noticed the news of Korean boyband/girl group e.g. BTS, Blackpink on the US media lately. Is Korean music getting popular there? Is their popularity only in Asian communities or has already expanded to mainstream scale?

I would say only in Asian communities but possibly in their surrounding communities and it's a completely different age group from what is on the board.

K-pop, like J-pop, is repetitive, contrived, formulaic schlock, produced for the masses by studio hacks.

It possesses no art and has no soul.

So, of course it will be wildly popular.
